Age Group = 40-44 M
Age Group Rank = 22/54
Pre-race routine:

Got to transition area and checked in at 0430 for a 0555 start for my wave. Set up my transition area and ate a banana and drank a bottle of water. Used the restroom then headed down to swim start at 0530 when the bike corral was closed off. Stretched a bit.
Event warmup:

Stretched a bit 25 minutes before swim. Had a short walk from the hotel to the race start/finish/transition area.
Swim
  • 21m 29s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Desperately need to work on swimming for next year.
What would you do differently?:

Beef up my swim training massively.
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

Long run from the beach to the transition area added significant amount of time. I was pretty happy with this transition overall. Only sticking point was that jersey stuck a little going on due to wetness.

I think my transition area was set up well.

Rank overall: 276, Age group rank: 29
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Need to get from water to transition faster.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 35s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 19.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Road surface was good through the most of the course. Rough road at the top of the hill at the half way point on the return side of the hill. Rained on us fairly heavy through Hawaii Kai. I made up a lot of ground on this leg. Had one power gel at the start of bike segment once I got into the groove.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - Was very happy with ride, my best leg
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Good transition.

Overall rank: 299, Age group rank: 29
What would you do differently?:

Have to think about this one. Stumbled with socks a little.
Run
  • 50m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Seemed much slower than it was. I was suprised with the result for this leg. Made up more ground on this leg. Had one power gel about 1/3 of the way into the run at one of the aid stations.
What would you do differently?:

Think about changing jersey. Top worked well for the bike, but I was a little warm on the run. Think about investing in good tri top.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk a lot, stretch, soak in cool pool at hotel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim was terrible. Absolutely where I need to work. A few minutes difference here would have changed my overall position dramatically.

Event comments:

Very well marked and marchalled course. Plenty of police presence to direct/control traffic. Volunteers well scattered throughout the course to provide warnings of road conditions on the bike especially with the sudden rain downpour. Was a great race for my first triathlon.
