Swim
Comments: Wetsuits weren't allowed for the Elite wave due to water temps, so I was dead in the water before the race even started. Transition 1
Comments: Very long run from the water to the Elite corral. Easy transition due to not using a wetsuit. Bike
Comments: Seems like the bike course measurement is off. I felt as though I was hammering and getting into at least the 24 mph territory for sure, but the results say otherwise. Maybe my legs were just too tired. This was only my third ride on the new bike. The setup is much more agressive than my road bike and it is going to take some getting used to. My arms and shoulders need to adapt to the new aerobars which are much flatter than my old ones. I can feel different muscle groups being used in my legs with the new setup, so I need to get a lot of miles on the new bike before Sept. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Couldn't afford to taper for this race. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Thought my legs would be fried, but I was able to hammer the whole race. Caught a lot of elite racers that I usually didn't pass in previous races. I think the bike allowed me to make up somewhat for the poor swim and put me in a good position to pass more people on the run. My run split was first in AG and was 26 seconds faster than Tony Schiller who recently won the national AG championship last weekend. His bike was 2:44 faster though. His swim was...ummmm...we won't talk about that. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Pushed as hard as I could. Post race
Warm down: Ran easy for 15 minutes. Did a second bike workout when I got home - 42.9 miles in 2:13:00 What limited your ability to perform faster: Tired from Fri workout Event comments: This was my first time at Heart of Lakes. What a tremendous race this is. Extremely well organized, tons of volunteers, well marked courses, great venue. Higly recommend it. Last updated: 2007-03-08 12:00 AM
