Pre-race routine:

Dinner at Romano's Mac Grill........ravioli..........preped gear and off to sleep by 10pm. Up at 5 am, eat 1/2 bagel, 1 protien shake, loaded car and off we went.
Swim
  • 41m 24s
  • 2000 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

was a little late to the start so just had time for a short warm up and no pre-swim gel.....
What would you do differently?:

Get there earlier.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Good transition, everything laid out well........glad I had a long sleeve jersey ready.
Bike
  • 3h 16m 34s
  • 80 kms
  • 24.42 km/hr
Comments:

Hilly course with a few flats to get aero........big change this year made it shorter but seemingly hillier and rougher. I liked it being shorter and it seemed to go faster than previous years and less pain.......but as per normal I struggled on the hills and wished I could hold on to a faster pace.
What would you do differently?:

Train more hill repeats......drop 60 lbs.
Transition 2
  • 01m 68s
Comments:

Good transition, fairly quick.....put on race number and fuel belt on off I went.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.........
Run
  • 2h 22m 58s
  • 20 kms
  • 07m 09s  min/km
Comments:

Legs a bit stiff for the first 5 km's.........felt almost strong after 10km's........then started to feel rough........needed a few walk breaks.......really felt my calorie depleation. Very glad to finally be done.
What would you do differently?:

More mileage..........more bike/run bricks.........
Post race
Warm down:

A recovery drink while sitting in the lake.................

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Needed more km's on the bike and better on hills.............less weight to carry up hills and on the run..........

Event comments:

A race that I've grown to love..........and really respect the distance and the difficulty..........great org and great support make it a truely world class event.
