![]() Swim
Comments: This is the first pool swim I have ever done and they are really different. I underestimated my swim pace on the sign in sheet and said 27 mins so I was caught in behind about four people who were slower than me for the longest time. I think I could have easily swum a 24 mins swim today. Oh well, at least I got in some good drafting. What would you do differently?: Seed myself better, although I honestly thought I would be between 26-27 mins. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Transition was long as I had to put on several layers due to the adverse conditions outside. It was raining pretty hard and a little cold and windy so I made sure to get on some tights and long sleeve jersey and jacket. this included a 300 meter run to bike transition from the changing tent. What would you do differently?: Probably go faster although I wanted to be comfortable on the bike so I was reasonably content with how it went. ![]() Bike
Comments: I had a great ride for me, I really felt strong the whole way and only got passed by one competitor on the bike. All in all I was very happy with this. What would you do differently?: Probably push a little harder in the first lap and drink and eat more!!! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Just left on my jacket and warm clothing for the run, but took a minute or so to throw on my shoes and grab some gloves from my bag. What would you do differently?: leave the gloves and ditch the jacket. ![]() Run
Comments: The run was tough due to my lack of run training because of my IT band problem, when I first started the run course I couldn't feel my feet or lower legs as they were so wet and cold, it was pretty tough, but I finally regained the feeling around the 3km mark. As I approached the 5km I started feeling extremely tired and realised I had not had anything to eat on the bike and I had only had half a bottle of gatorade. So I grabbed a powerbar out of my jacket, ate that, grabbed some powerade from an aid staion and downed that and then I felt good to go, but I had walked for about a minute and that was enough to frustrate me. I was still only passed by 2 people on the run, so that wasn't bad, but I only passed 2-3 people as well, so not that great as this is usually my strength and I wanted to go sub 45 on the run. What would you do differently?: Make sure to get in some food and drink on the bike, it didn't hurt me until 5km into the run, but that was enough to do it. ![]() Post race
Warm down: grabbed some oranges, went back into the rec center and jumped in a warm shower, man did that feel good. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being sick and lack of sleep, plus lack of good solid run training. Event comments: This is the first year I have done this race and despite the poor weather conditions it was excellent. I have to say the volunteers were great, being out there despite the crappy weather and cheering us on. Fantastic stuff. Last updated: 2007-03-12 12:00 AM

I was sick for 3 days with a cold and sore throat, I also only got 4 hours sleep. Brutal. Got to the race and didn't really want to race, but as soon as I got into the pool area I was pretty pumped to be there.
No warm-up whatsoever.
