Run
Comments: Started more to the backed and passed a few people. Temp was ideal, cool any didn'd sweat much. 1st time racing in the Asics DS Trainer. A real good ride. Very happy with running pace for 1st race of the year and 2 months post hernia surgery. What would you do differently?: Make sure my blood sugar was more controled before starting the race. Transition 1
Comments: Thought it was a fairly smooth transition. It was my 1st time using bike shoes and cleats this race. What would you do differently?: I have to get use to running with bike shoes on. Bike
Comments: The hills were killing my legs. More so coming in than going out. I wish I could have taken more advantage on riding downhill, however, this is when I would take sips from my water bottle and get a short break from pedaling instead of hitting the big gears and picking up AVG mph. Bear and Mama Bear mentioned the coarse was changed and last year the hill were a lot worse. What would you do differently?: Work on strengh/power more and ride more. Right now I consider the bike my weakest leg of Triathlon. Transition 2
Comments: Dismounted good. However, the jogging to the rack I stumbled a bit and nearly sent my bike to the pavement. I got my bike gear off pretty good and put on my shoes okay. I never got a chance to tighten up my yankz because I could not get grip on them, so I just took off. My right shoe touge was pushed down pretty far too, but it was only a 2 mile run and fixing it would have done more harm than good. I ate one more GU before getting off the bike. I also drank one bottle of Gatorade and one bottle of water during the ride. What would you do differently?: Learn to run/jog in my bike shoes. I might tighten up the Yankz more so I dont need to pull em' and clip em'. Shoes fit good without doing it. I dont find it makes them that more tighter anyway and I could save some time. Run
Comments: This time I was only around a few people. I had to use the spray painted arrows on the ground so I wouldn't be unintentionally taking the neighborhood detour. There were a few people outside of their houses cheering us on. I seen an old man in his driveway in his boxers picking up his Sunday paper. He said I was running so fast I set fire to his shorts and they sizzled off. He had me cracking up so hard it took me a while to regulate my breathing again. I yelled back, "I can see that" and he began to chuckle himself. Nice people around here. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: I seen Bear and his son Dylan at the finishline and introduced myself. I also met Mama Bear, all BTers. They are a real nice family and they all participated in the race in someway. Bear and Dylan got 1st place in the relay. Mama Bear seemed to inspire Cassie to go out there and compete next year and the other boys were handing out water. I'm looking forward to seeing them again at more races to come. What limited your ability to perform faster: HILLS. I may try do do some hill sprints on the spinner to give my legs some more power. Blood Sugar 257. Way too high. I to take a 7 units of insulin to cover it. I think the GU and gatorade bumped it up this high. Event comments: Definatley a race I would like to do annually. A good race to kick off the season. Time per Race results: James Moeller 63rd, 15:05.64, 7:33/M 70th, 52:59.05, 18.1mph 53rd, 15:12.23, 7:36/M Overall time: 1:23:16.92 Last updated: 2007-03-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 6am, showered, packed up things, and headed out. Hit up free contienental breakfast at the Days Inn. Ate a begal with jelly and a banana. Took 5 units of insulin. Should have taken more b/c blood sugar was 223 before race. Took 1 extra unit. Ate a gu 10 min b/f race.
Stretched then rode bike the one mile to I-49 and back at a high cadence pace to loosen up legs. Then jogged about 6 minutes. Stretched a little bit again. Then I had to hurry to the start of the race.
