Pre-race routine:

Small pasta and Gu the night before, as well as a 17min run. Small cereal and Gu before, a little OJ, cup of coffee, gatorade until start.

very hard first loop. calves tried to cramp up a little, but didn't. strength and energy was fine; it was just my HR that held me back. I strided out the last 1/4 to 1/2 mile, but got a severe side-stitch. Ran through it, but....
What would you do differently?:

either where socks or mole-skin.

HR. I felt great! Energy level was just right.
