Swim
Comments: I felt really good about this leg of the race. Kept up with the girl sharing my lane for at least the first 5 laps or so. What would you do differently?: Just keep working on building the base I currently have. Transition 1
Comments: Walked to the transition and then to the mount line to allow my heart rate to come down a little after the swim. Still feeling really good about this point. What would you do differently?: I felt nice and relaxed during transition. Maybe next time, I'll forgo wearing my sandals from the water to the transition because I felt I was about to slip with each step I took. Bike
Comments: After this race, I've developed a new found dislike of Mill Creek Park. It's my own fault, though, since I never rode the bike outside all that much. I have plenty of excuses as to why, some valid and some not. Got killed time wise because of a faulty reflector on the rear tire that had me stopping four times before I finally broke it off and handed it to a volunteer to throw away for me. It actually sounded like when kids put baseball cards in their spokes to make motorcycle sounds. What would you do differently?: Use a moped??? No, seriously, I definitely MUST ride in Mill Creek Park more. I believe this plan will get me more used to the hills. Transition 2
Comments: Man, my legs felt like rubber when I dismounted my bike and "tried" to walk into the transition area. I thought for sure I was going to fall over. What would you do differently?: Have someone carry me??? Run
Comments: This is where I was a little disappointed in myself. I listened to everyone and took it very easy, waitning for my legs to return after the bike. Well they never returned. I made it a few hundred yards (and out of sight of everyone) when I decided something didn't feel good in my right knee, so I started to walk. I ran/walked for a little bit more until I decided that I was not going to run anymore until the twinge left my knee. Fortunately, I ended up walking with another athlete and we has a great time walking and joking around. With a little less than a mile, I was able to jog again, so I told my new found friend that I'd see her at the finish line and jogged my way back in. I found my two boys just before the finish line, so I picked up the four year old, pulled the nine year old close and together WALKED across the finish line. The sight really charged the crowd up. What would you do differently?: I definitely have to a) get the knee checked out to make sure there's nothing wrong with it, b) keep building the running base and c) practice more going from the bike to the run. Post race
Warm down: Drank a bottle of water, ate a bagel and waited in line for the free massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: I truely believe the knee problem is directly related to the foot problem. I don't know if I did something because I was favoring the foot or what, but it most certainly needs to be followed up on. Event comments: This race is very well run with more volunteers than they new what to do with. This is a great triathlon for first timers as well as competitive age groupers looking to kick start the season. Last updated: 2007-03-16 12:00 AM
