Run
Comments: The course was an out and back on the Santa Ana Pueblo. It was advertised as "flat". I always thought of flat to be something like a pancake. In this case, flat meant two major hills (out and back equals 4 climbs) and a 628 foot elevation change. Today was going to be a long slow distance run in prep for the Ragnar Del Sol relay at the end of the month. I figured I'd run/walk 12 minute miles and finish up at about two hours, but I finished up about 13 faster so I was more than content. The scenery and the company were good. What would you do differently?: Essentially a non-issue, but if I were "racing" it - fewer to no walk breaks and a faster pace. Post race
Warm down: Walked around at the sight, did some shopping in Albuquerque before making the 2+ hr. drive home. Stretching and some work with the massage stick after getting home. What limited your ability to perform faster: My kilt has less wind resistance than spandex. Event comments: The race was a little costlier than I'm used to for a foot race of this size...$40 bucks for me to do the 10 mile, another $30 for my wife to do the 5k (in fairness to them, I did register on race day). Very little swag, but I liked the t-shirt design (very few of my foot race shirts get worn more than a couple of times) The Athletes Edge sponsored races are generally well organized, on time and with plenty of volunteers and support. Got up at 345am, showered, had a bowl of cereal, made the 2.5 hr drive to the Santa Ana Pueblo. Stopped for energy drinks and a Starbucks Chai along the way.
Stood in line for the porta potty. Did some light jogging.
