Swim
Comments: This was my best swim to date in open water, I swam the whole way never stopped stayed in good rythem with breathing and stoke. I was very happy with this swim, there was some chop towards the end and the sun in your face made it tough. What would you do differently?: Site a little better, I found myself off course a few times Transition 1
Comments: about 300 yards to T1, walked in T1 to catch my breath, took my time and good out fairly quick. What would you do differently?: nothing, I needed the rest Bike
Comments: Well it started out good, the first 10 miles I was well over 20mph ave., then around the 24 mile mark I got pains in my groin area everytime I got down in the aero bars, I have never had this problem before, the wind was howling at this point heading west. I started to cramp and was in major pain the rest of the ride, this was by far my worst bike ride in a race. I just can't seem to get the bike adjusted properly. I could not wait to get off the bike, which is usually my strongest leg. What would you do differently?: The disc wheel did not help, the wind was blowing me all over, take in more salt and electrolytes, have a different seat, I just can't get comfortable in this new seat and new bike Transition 2
Comments: Just walked the bike in tried to get my legs back, they were very tight and was still crampping. Moved through transistion faily well What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: What can I say besides disaster. Started out with an 8:32, didn't seem to be moving that fast, during the first incline both quads started to lock up, walked the hill and rubbed quads out. From that point on I walked every station and almost every hill because of the cramps. when I did run I was under 9 min. miles and felt good, I took gels, gatorade, and water at every stop, but it didn't seem to help. Then at mile 6 a bister formed on the right foot and hurt more and more as I went on. I walked about 2 miles of this run, the last .1 is stright up a hill, I saw the time and just sprinted, I thought if the quads lock up, I'll limp it in, if they don't I'll be closed to making it under 6 hrs. I went into a full sprint and made it 5:59:59 What would you do differently?: figure out the nutrition better, I ran good when I wasn't cramping, I need to lube or wrap the right foot since it has blister up for the second time. Post race
Warm down: walked around and took in fluids What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps, blister Event comments: This is a very good race, it is challenging, but put on well, this was my first Tri beyond the sprint distance, I have a lot of work to do, but on the positive side, I still broke 6 hrs with bike problems and cramping, and a very bad blister.
