Total Time = 1h 46m 12s
Overall Rank = 58/75
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 8/10
Pre-race routine:

Two bananas, lots of water, stare at swimming course and think oh sh*t.
Event warmup:

Bike around the parking lot
Swim
  • 11m 56s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

I finished the swim tired but faster than I thought I would; which is evidenced by my 12th overall finish out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 57s
Comments:

I had no idea what I was doing. I hadn't practiced the transition even though everything told me to. I guess I just took my time, maybe in order to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

I would show some hustle. There is no reason to lose time in the transitions.
Bike
  • 55m 56s
  • 15 miles
  • 16.09 mile/hr
Comments:

Lost a lot of ground on the bike. I found myself going 8-9mph up the big hills. At one point on a large downhill I found myself going 32mph, so that was fun. Got passed a lot, but passed 5 people.
What would you do differently?:

I would have pushed it harder on the straightaways.
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

This was slow as well. I had nothing to do but rack the bike and throw on a bandana.
What would you do differently?:

Hurry up! Again, there is no reason to lose time during a transition.
Run
  • 32m 35s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt awful coming off the bike. I was not hydrated well enough; which could have contributed to a lackluster beginning. At around the 3 mile mark, with the end in site, I saw two middle aged women in front of me. Due to the staggered start they may not have been "technically" ahead of me, but I turned on the jets and sprinted past them in order to "beat them."
What would you do differently?:

The fact that I was able to sprint at the end leads me to believe I had a little more in the tank than I thought. Needed to break through the mental drain and push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk and drink and eat

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of transition training and bicycle work.

Event comments:

This was a great event. I was a little intimidated by the other participants with nice bikes and good gear, but then I realized I wasn't competing with them, just myself.

Overall: 12/75
Performance: Good
Suit: full sleave wetsuit
Course: The water temp was too high making the event non-wetsuit legal. I wore mine anyway because I wasn't confident in the swim, and my buddies were still wearing theirs. I am a follower.
