Swim
Comments: Bonked after third lap. Swam the rest on pure determination and BAD form. Stayed in freestyle, and rested at the end of the 3rd lap. What would you do differently?: Masters Swimming program to better prepare. Base wasn't what I needed it to be. I trained hard, did alot of repeats whereas I should've been more focused on buidling my base. Transition 1
Comments: By the time I got to the end of the swim it was all I could do to pull myself out. Running to the transition spot was a chore and as I reached my bike rack spot, I plopped down, inhaled an energy gel and began the process of getting myself together for the bike. I had to sit for a moment and gather myself, hence the long T1 time. I actually did bonk in the water. What would you do differently?: Again, ensure my endurance base is such that I can get through the swim and onto my bike in a manner that is more inline with my expectations. Bike
Comments: UPS Lost my bike during shipping. So, I had to purchase another bike while stuck at the airport in newark due to the inclimate weather on Friday AM. Purchased a Cannondale 613 tri bike. Jim, the bike shop owner adjsuted it to teh ebs tof his ability, based on what we did for my original bike. I didn't get to Charlotte in time for final adjustments to be made and the setup didn't work for me. Couldn't get down on the aerobars at all due to my knees hitting my chest. Expenried numbness in my hands and "man area". So, upright, uphill, into wind riding for most of the race. What would you do differently?: not fly through newark. not ship via UPS. Aside from that, my pace wasn't bad and I felt strong on the bike. But, i still didn't meet my expectations. Transition 2
Comments: By the time I got to T2, I felt good again. I was able to quickly get off my bike and get into my running gear. T2 time still wasn't good enough, but it was much better than T1. What would you do differently?: Get out of my shoes quicker. probably while coming to the stopping point prior to entering the transition area. Run
Comments: Felt fine. Cadence was good, strength was good, probaly could've gone harder and faster. Recovered by now from the swim. What would you do differently?: run harder and faster. Post race
Warm down: snacks, gatorade..didn't have much time as I had to drive back to Charlotte and make my flight back to Denver. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of focus.
