Pre-race routine:

Woke 1 hr 45 min prior to race (stayed in a hotel in Waikiki), ate breakfast and walked to race start area (1/2 mi), light stretching

Comments:

Ran solid until the 18 mi mark and then had to walk the first time. Left leg was in pain from ball of foot all the way through to the knee. Walked almost 3 miles of the final 8.

Warm down:

Walked back to hotel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Physique I guess, knee and ankle joints weren't able to hold up for the long distance.

Event comments:

Kapiolani Park was a giant mud bog due to the heavy rains. Many poor stagers at the beginning of the race. I spent the first 3 miles dodgin around walkers who had staged themselves in the 2-3 and 3-4 hr staging areas. Was very frustrating.

This was my last marathon. I will stick to the shorter races such as tris and 10Ks and the Great Aloha Run (8.15 miles)
