Pre-race routine:

Woke up, had Fiber One bar, checked TZ.com for meeting place for group. Drove down to TXDOT w/ the boyfriend, who was running too. Cruised the porta-potties for teammates, but seeing none, went to line up with the red (really orange bibs)
Event warmup:

stood in crowd, but at least it wasnt claustrophobic at any point
Run

  • 11m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Not running but 30 min a week since AT&T trying to rehab did me a disservice here. ALthough my calves and hamstring were relatively fine throughout, I needed to have some distance runs in there to keep up my heart rate fitness
What would you do differently?:

Not slack offo n the running between AT&T and this one
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around in search of actual food since the snack bags sucked, containing nothing anyone would want ot eat after a race (Wheetabix, quaker granola bar, soyjoy bar, and warm gatorade) None of the drinks available were cold. HEB was serving birthday cake, though, and that hit the spot until we got to WHole Foods fora nutritious breakfast of eggs (made with cream), potatoes and peppers, creme brulee french toast, and fruit with granola..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

humidity and lack of maintenance training

Event comments:

Whats up with no fruit or cold drinks at the end.. and Wheetabix?? who wants to eat that after a race.. get real!

Performance: Below average
First 4 miles at 11:00 exactly. HR started doing funky stuff during mile 5, so we walked a bit.. couldnt really calm it down so we had to walk about 3 min of mile 6 also...
Course: Course was relatively easy. Lots of water stops. Not as many spectators as one might hope.. Not a single cowbell and only one teammate out there for support. Did have some kiddo that I love a bunch right on the corner of the 1st street bridge from Cesar Chavez, and that helped.
