Swim
Comments: This was a terrible swim for me. I chose not to wear a wetsuit because of the temperature and muggy weather, and totally didn't control my pace at the start. I wound up having to backstroke for a little while just to catch my breath. There was a milli-second where I wondered if I would make it, which is odd since I can swim 3x's this distance without trouble during my workouts. I think I was over confident as my first tri was the Longhorn fest in Galveston where I did well. I think the change to no-wetsuit and fresh water made this swim a bit harder. What would you do differently?: Wear my pacer to remind me to keep a steady and slow stroke. I think I did so well at my first tri in Galveston that I wanted to do as well, and I should've just tried to dial-in my performance and keep it there. Transition 1
Comments: I had a little trouble with my socks and gloves as I was wet. This was the first time that I tried to pre-load my clip shoes in and worry about getting the fit while riding, and it worked out Ok. I should practice that some more. What would you do differently?: practice more on tightening my shoes while riding. Bike
Comments: This was a good leg for me as I was able to hold a good pace and pass a few people. This was a pretty crowded course so passing was a big negotiation between passing and being passed at the same time. What would you do differently?: Drink more on the ride. Transition 2
Comments: I tried to take off the shoes while still on the bike, but that didn't work and I wound up just leaving them on. What would you do differently?: Practice taking off shoes while riding. Run
Comments: I couldn't hold my normal pace, but I settled in pretty well and only slowed down twice at the drink stations. Post race
Warm down: Stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: I had a few late nights this week due to work, so I probably wasn't as rested as I should have been. Event comments: This was a nice, relatively laid-back race. I generally had a good time, except for my poor swim performance. The volunteers were numerous and great motivators...there seemed to be someone every few feet on the run which was nice. Last updated: 2007-03-25 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4am, checked my gear and made a breakfast burrito for breakfast. I then drove to the event (45 min drive).
After arriving, I did a 10m jog, then got my gear to the transition area. I then got all of my stuff together, and did a 5m swim just prior to the start of the event. The water wasn't too bad, so I decided not to wear my wetsuit.
