Swim
Comments: know that time looks really slow but it includes me getting in one pool that was so hot after one lap that I didn't think I would finish. I switched pools to the lap only pool (I didn't start there because I didn't want to get tied up with the master group that rolls in.) Needless to say I stopped and rested a ton. I simply have not been in the pool much since the ear issue. My whole goal here was to survive. I did end up sharing the lane with a 92 year old lady who was really cool What would you do differently?: Train in the pool more. Transition 1
Comments: So I ran my t1 in the locker room. I did not hurry at all and actually took my time. I had set up a seperate locker for t1 from my normal locker which worked out good. I was almost dry by the time I made it to the locker and I just tossed on my shorts, shirt and socks and carried my shoes with me. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe wear my HR monitor in the pool so I wouldn't have to put it on in t1. Bike
Comments: I felt really good out of the gates. Shortly after I finished mile one I hit a little wall and started to hurt for a bit. by the time I was at 2.5 miles I was feeling good. At mile 3 I sucked down some hammer gel and that kicked in right away and I felt great. the last mile I kicked it up a notch and finished strong and feeling great. What would you do differently?: Have the straps preset on the bike and hope they stay that way when I get up to the room. I also would have like to had my mp3 player. Transition 2
Comments: So I stopped for a long drink...I really needed fluids. I also had to spend some time talking one of the Y employees into taking my photo and not thinking I was a nut job. I didn't have any clothing change. What would you do differently?: More water while on the bike and not talk to employees about taking photos. Oh and spend more time streching. Run
Comments: So the first 30 seconds was a little weird since I had a YMCA employee taking my photo on the TM while running so I could send it in to Stu. Well as soon as she was done my right calf cramped up and I totally fell off the treadmill (looked around to see if anyone saw me, no one saw, perfect). Stopped streched out the calf. Jumped back on the tread mill and ran hard till the end. I actually felt really strong through out the run. (I mentioned to a buddy afterwards that it was the strongest run I have had yet this year.) That pace is insane for me. At the end I wanted to throw my arms up in the air like a champion but I figured I had pushed my luck the falling of the treadmill move earlier. What would you do differently?: strech in the t2. MP3 player next time. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim was a huge factor. I need to pull with my arms more. less legs. Event comments: volenteers where great....oh yeah they are Stu and the Y employee Drinks is my fault. Last updated: 2007-03-26 12:00 AM

So leading up the race I was unsure what to do since I had so much going on. I loaded on carbs the day before and went for light runs and rides.
