Swim
Comments: I was very nervous waiting for the swim to start, I've never done an OWS without having trouble at the start with breathing and backstroking. I waded in, got wet and let everyone start swimming and then just started swimming, no panic or breathing issues!!! I was so happy with myself I forgot about not being able to see the turn around! Just concentrated on swimming from one marker to the next. It was hard to see where to swim because my wave's swim caps were bright orange and the same color as the bouys! augh that was hard to tell where to go. I got half way out and a swarm of silver caps came over me, I had to stop swimming and just wait for them to pass. That freaked me out. But then I just got back at it and kept on swimming. I got to the turn around and said a little yippeee to myself and giggled. I felt like I swam a lot better on the way back, not that I am fast but I felt like I was warmed up and moving a bit faster. I did get swarmed by a bunch of silver caps again but this time I just kept swimming. Someone swam up my back and someone else clubbed me in the head. I swallowed quite a bit of water. It was hard to see on the way back because of the glare on the water. I just kept looking for splashing and followed what I could see. Most of my left hand went numb on the way back any repetitive motion bothers my wrist after having surgery. It was ok just felt weird and I probably didn't have real good form. My left shoulder was hurting still from the mountain bike wreck, so towards the end my left hand was doing the fingertip drill thing on every other stroke or so. It was awesome to get to the beach!!! I was so happy with my swim, I wasn't a weenie and actually swam the whole time!!!!!!! What would you do differently?: Get faster, get better on holding my space with other swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: I was dizzy when I got out of the water, I guess that is why it took 3 minutes. It was a bit from the beach to the bike and then out of the bike area. Bike
Comments: The bike was rolling hills in the beg and somewhat flatter after about 10 miles or so. I passed tons of people on the bike! I had some GI issues and stopped at the turn around. I think for the whole race I stopped to potty 4 times. Heck right there I could take off almost 10 minutes :-) I was happy with the bike and probably could have pushed it a little harder. It was funny on this long flat, a girl comes up and passes me and says "Good Ride! I've been chasing you for awhile" she is breathing hard (I am not) she pulls in front of me and seems to slow down. For some reason that woke me up and I took off. She tried to keep up with me but couldn't. I didn't see her again until I went through the turn around and saw her a few minutes back. What would you do differently?: Push it a little harder. Got a 4 minute penalty from the lady on the motor cycle....It was hard when you are trying to pass groups of people and not get hit by cars. Transition 2
Comments: Took time to apply sunscreen and use porta potty. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: The first mile was tough. My HR was too high and then we started up a hill and I had to walk to try and get things under control. My plan was to run each mile and walk the water stations. I ended up walking for 20 or 30 seconds every once in awhile and I walked some of the hills. The last few miles the balls of my feet were starting to hurt and my left hip was hurting. What would you do differently?: Not walk so much. Post race
Event comments: The pre race dinner was awesome!!! Last updated: 2007-03-26 12:00 AM
