Age Group Rank = 15/45
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4am and out the door at 5am for a 1 hour 45 minute drive to the race site. Tried to stay awake on the drive.
Event warmup:

Rode my bike for a mile or so just to get some blood flowing.
Swim
  • 04m 57s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

The first two laps were great and then I made the turn for the third lap. I was right behind the person who started in front of me. I tapped his ankles probably 5-7 times going down the lane. So I thought for sure he would hold up for a second at the wall to let me pass. No such luck. So I was swimming breast stroke right behind him tapping his legs until the person passed coming up the other side of the lane. By this time I was getting impatient so I grabbed his ankle and stopped his momentum a little bit. I then sprinted around him towards the wall. After doing this my breathing and heart rate were out of whack so for the final three laps I was just trying to survive.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I could have stayed behind the guy and hoped he would stop at the next wall but I don't think he was ever going to let me by. Had we only had to swim one way in each lane it wouldn't have been too much trouble to get around him but with people coming down the other side of the lane it makes it a bit more difficult.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

In the top 20 for T1 times so I was pleased. Not sure I can improve this much unless I learn to start the bike with my shoes on the bike and not have to take the time to put them on in T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 39m 18s
  • 12.2 miles
  • 18.63 mile/hr
Comments:

About what I expected on the bike. It was a long ways from the timing mat to the mount and dismount line. I think this made the averages slower. I had 18.8 as my average.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Good transistion for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 25m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a hilly run. I felt this was my best run this year so far. Although the time does not reflect it as much. I guess this was do to the hills.
What would you do differently?:

My first mile is always the slowest. Do more bricks so I can get up to pace quicker on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked to some of the other athletes. Ate pizza.

Event comments:

I enjoyed this race and will be back to do it again.
