Age Group Rank = 3/3
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6am and took a shower. Got ready and drove to the race with Jeff Ryan and Christi. We stopped at a gas station and got a breakfast sandwich.
I was a little worried if this was a stupid thing to do, but it turned out to be perfect. We got there plenty early and got our transition setup and I got the pick on the rack which was nice.
Event warmup:

Went to the water and tested it (cold) and went through transition in my head.
Swim
  • 33m 6s
  • 1500 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was a good swim. This was my first time with this distance and I did well. The interesting thing about this course, is about 25% of it you could stand. So sometimes I would dolphin dive to go a little faster. I got in my groove right before rounding the far buoy the first time and kicked butt after that.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. I can always use more practice and get faster!
Transition 1
  • 05m 44s
Comments:

Long T1 from the beach. We had to run about .10 of a mile to the transition through sand, not fast or fun.
What would you do differently?:

Be quicker and not have my glove inside out and take the extra 5 seconds to make sure all sand was off my feet (had a few grains that kinda bugged me at the end of the run).
Bike
  • 1h 19m 17s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Awesome bike ride. I felt really strong and had a great avg speed for how hilly it was. I enjoyed the bike a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Coming out of T1 I had to go over a cattle gaurd and both my water bottle and my spare tube kit popped out of my rear drink holder so I had to stop, turn around and go get it. That ruined my pace, time and avg. I bet I was closer to 19.5-20 if I didn't do that.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Good transition and took a swig of gel before going out on the run
What would you do differently?:

Just get quicker.
Run
  • 1h 02m 8s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pretty spent by this time. First oly was catching up with me after the good bike I didn't have a ton left. Energy felt good, but not really running well in training for over a month really caught up with me
What would you do differently?:

Train for running more. I have slacked off.
Post race
Warm down:

So after I about collapsed (not really) Ryan and Jeff got me some food and I took the recovery pills we got in our packets. I also stuck around for my 3rd place metal!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run training and lack of training in general.

Event comments:

Great race. Really enjoyed the venue and a good job for their first annual Bear Lake Brawl!
