Swim
Comments: The swim was great, this is by far my strongest event, I really enjoy it and have fun with the swim. The swim was out in the James river with three legs (swim out turn right swim turn right and head in. The current was with you on the 2nd leg but coming back in, it was pushing you to the left. I had trouble finding the bouy on the last leg and made the mistake of following the pack for a while till I could site it. The problem was where not swimming a staight line, I got this corrected and headed on in. I placed 8/37 in AG for the swim and 84/259(men) overall. I was pleased at this point. What would you do differently?: Not follow the crownd and sight for myself. Transition 1
Comments: This was a long transtion, but we all knew that it would be, it was about a 1/2 from the water to the bikes. Oh well what can you do. Other than that I got my shoes and helment on and headed out Bike
Comments: Well after a great swim, here I was headed out to bike. I know I am not the strongest biker, but the pharse of the day was "on your left" and no I was not saying it, I heard it over and over again as I was passed by all of those who I passed or beat in the swim. I had planned on making sure I ate early and did so, and also drank often. I felt good on the bike and kept telling my self not to push it because I still had a half marathon to run. The bike leg was a little longer than 56, I got 58.2 as well as a friend of mine had 58.1 miles. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: No comment What would you do differently?: Take a nap??? Run
Comments: Run, well there was not much runnig for me. I first off have not trained properly leading up to this event. I had signed up back in Feb. Ran a good marathon in March and was out of comission for April and never got my training back on schedule. I knew coming in to this that it would be a loooonnnng run. But wow. First off if you read back in the bike section, I drank often, well I drank way to much. I had that sloshing liquid filled belly going on and it felt bad. My legs where tired, but I would be dammed if I was going to stop or stop having fun. So I plugged along walking more than running but cheering on everyone I could, those who where headed home and those who passed me. I was talking with a guy a meet and he asked me if I knew half of the people out here, I told him no, just having fun. Having fun and finishing where my goals for this race. It may have taken me a while but I did it. What would you do differently?: TRAIN and learn from my training. Post race
Warm down: Went thru the finish line got a bottle of water a medal and then I went straight to the BBQ. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, drank to much, lack of training, heat on the run, and lack of training. Event comments: Great race this was the first time it was run and it was well done Last updated: 2007-03-28 12:00 AM

The pre race routine began with getting up before the alarm goes off because of nerves. I got up had a cup of coffee a bagel and a banana. I then got myself together and headed out to the race course.
Warm-up was setting up my transtion area. I got there early and got a spot at the end of the bike rack which I like. Then a little walking around and a trip or two to the port a johns.
