Swim
Comments: I felt like I did this swim much better. I actually swam crawl most of it and felt like I was siting pretty well. I was still a little slower than I thought I should have been, but it was a pretty good performance overall. What would you do differently?: Not much, learn to swim better. Transition 1
Comments: I am still not trying to put my shoes on the bike. I don't have the heel tabs and to mess with the shoes and... it does not save THAT much time. I felt like it didn't take that long, but the transistion area was HUGE. Per my Garmin it was .13 of a mile in total, so most of that time was no doubt running from place to place. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I felt like I had a great ride. The only place that I felt like I should have done better was toward the end. I was starting to fade. I had made a change on the bike lowered the rests from 25MM to 12.5MM that got me a lot lower and I think it changed the way I was pedaling some. I was pushing pretty hard, likely that is one reason I didn't have a stellar run. I passed a few people, was passed a whole lot more. You can tell this is a high class field, I was 307th place overall with a 19.67 MPH average speed. The top finisher had a 26.6 MPH average, that is moving. What would you do differently?: train more, train more.... repeat train MOE. Transition 2
Comments: Lost my right shoe as I jumped off the bike, found it after the race. I had pulled my feet out with 200-300 yards before the finish, and did the flying dismount. Didn't even feel the shoe pop off, someone told me and the one guy said "don't worry about it, I have it." What would you do differently?: Again not much. Run
Comments: When I started running the temps had reached about 75 degrees, that likely had some thing to do with how well/poorly I ran. I think not having someone that I was chasing had me not push nearly as hard as I could have. I think I could have gone faster, but I really don't know. Nothing really remarkable about the run. The only think worth noting, was about mile 5 there was a water station with a LOT of folks handing out water/gatorade, 2 of the gals had put water cups on their head to hand out. As I was running by I grabbed one of the cups, and with the same movement proceeded to dump it on her. I know she didn't mind, and I also know it was not expected. I didn't stop and turn to see her face, but I did hear a couple of laughs coming from the group. I got water at most stops, passed by water at one of them at least. Drank some what sparingly, since I recall a couple of races where I over drank and ended up with a slooshing gut. Dumped water on my head several stops, and got ice at the first mile. But that was the only stop that had ice. I put that in my hat and some fell down my back. It melted pretty fast and felt darn good doing so. I think I had pushed too hard on the bike, and that may have also impacted my run. I am not sure. My legs didn't feel super tired and the first mile was pretty respectable. However, I couldn't hold the pace. I was still feeling some of the effects from being sick Thursday. I think without that I would have had more to give and likely could have pushed harder. It would have cut some time from the run. What would you do differently?: Not get sick Thursday, train longer and harder on the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around looking for my wife and kids. Headed to the area I dropped my bike shoe, didn't find it, then headed back to the finish area to ask there. Found it laying on the ground there. Grabbed a beer and a slice of water melon. Head back to the transition area, tore that down and headed to the place they were serving lunch. Finally saw my wife and kids. Grabbed some food and waited to hear the results of the MERCERS. My club was hoping to finish in the money, I thought we might have a slight chance for a high finish, but we didn't finish in the top 4. We only have 10-15 people total that race in the races. Where as many of the clubs send that many to 1 race. Our club has less than 100 members, heck from what I know we have 20-25 active members. The team that won has something like 300 members, and sent 125 to this race alone (course it is THEIR home race.) What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training. Event comments: Great race, plenty of food and free beer for racers after the race. Last updated: 2007-03-30 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:45 AM got dressed and packed up the little bit of stuff I needed to take with me. Rode my bike 1 mile to the hotel where a club member (who had NO idea how to get to me) was staying. Packed up the bike and rode the 15 minutes to the race site with him and his wife.
Got to the race headed to the transistion area set up and grabbed a clif bar and 1 pop tart. Got set up and talked with a couple club members who I found at the race.
1 GU just before the start.
Swam about 400 yards prior to them pulling us out of the water. That was about it.
