Swim
Comments: Holy choppy water! I prepared myself for this mentally from shore, so I was ready for it, though I swallowed more pond water than I would have liked. All waves had the same color cap, so it was impossible for me to tell where I was within my group. Got a little lax towards the last 200 yards, picked it up at the end. The water was warm and clear - nice swim! What would you do differently?: Examine my Seal Mask (left eye), for some leakage. More open water swimming for practice. Transition 1
Comments: Skipped socks on the bike today - and was totally comfortable. I think for Olympics and longer, I'd use moleskin for blister protection, but today was totally fine - and a timesaver! What would you do differently?: Should have worn sunglasses on the ride! Bike
Comments: Oops! For the first time ever, I dropped both my water bottle (doh!) and my bike number (stupid twisties don't hold the number on at 35 mph downhills). Great on the hills today - I can definitely tell I'm getting better at climbing over last year. Legs were a little lazy today on cadence and cranking up the long slow ones - need some strengthening. Had almost all of one gel on the bike (even w/out water), to get some calories in. What would you do differently?: Don't drop the water bottle, silly! Transition 2
Comments: I really need to practice the feet-out-of-shoes skill more. I forget to transition drills during training. What would you do differently?: Practice. Run
Comments: Felt so much better than last year. Legs were rough for the first 1/4 mile - had the numb toes thing again (from Mooseman). So odd! Breathing too quickly at first, then finally relaxed into a rhythm. Didn't walk at all, even up the steep trail hills, so I was proud of myself. Really wanted some salty stuff, but all they had was water out on the course - need to remember an Endurolyte for the end of the bike sessions. What would you do differently?: Practice trail running (have another Sprint like this in early September). Hydrate more (but this would have been avoided if I hadn't dropped the bike bottle). Post race
Warm down: Walking, Accelerade (provided by the race), stretching, packing up bag. Then, meeting with team, cheering people on, eating yummy post-race lunch: veggie burger, salads, brownies + more. Put some warm clothes on, b/c the wind had really picked up by now! Watched the awards cermony, and won a $50 gift certificate to a sporting goods shop in Lebanon (will have to stop there on our way to VT). What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of endurance training, but this will be amended with new coached plan starting this week. Event comments: Enthusiastic, friendly volunteers. Race giveaways: sweatcaps running cap with race logo embroidered on it, t-shirt, bag of nutritional goodies. Really delicious, healthy lunch. Everything was on time, and overall the race lacked only the pushiness of a much larger venue - which is FINE! I would definitely do this race again next year. Suggestions: I wish they had an electrolyte drink on the course, and counted transition times separately from the legs. Last updated: 2007-03-30 12:00 AM

Arrived early, hydrated and coffee'd. Had a plain, toasted bagel and some gels + Endurolytes. Met up with teammates, set up transition, chatted with folks around me - everyone is so friendly at this race! Saw Shannon3 pre-race, but couldn't find her in transition later on. Bathroom, some more gel, then wetsuit on.
Jogged in my wetsuit a bit, then swum from swim-in line out to the island - the water was warm, but very choppy! Chatted with Jen Marts and Jen Hanson, jumped up and down during the athlete's meeting, trying to stay warm; I saw a lot of people shivering, but luckily (unusual for me) I didn't get really cold.
