Pre-race routine:

Got up bright and early to make sure I wasn't late. Good thing, there was an accident right before the exit for the race and the entire freeway was shut down and all traffice was de-routed to the exit I needed. Other than that I had a PB&J for breakfast at 5:30 and only ate about half of it. The accident caused a 15 min delay of the start but didn't bother me...I was just happy to be there.
Event warmup:

Took my Sports Legs and hour before and had my first gel about 20 min prior to the race. The warm up was the very fast walk to the event because it was very cold in my shorts and sleeveless shirt.

Comments:

Starting off, I took it pretty slow to warm up and it was GREAT! However, I ran into some trouble at mile 4...the entire bottom of my right foot started going numb. It started at the front and right toward the heel. I finally stopped and loosened up the laces hoping that was the problem but knowing it was not. I tried to make up some time from the stop but the foot went numb again, but this time the numbeness was starting to go up my ankle. This time I was hoping that it was the sock that was making my foot go numb so I took it off. Now, we aren't talking a little numb we are talking "could barely feel it numb". So I started off again and the darn foot went numb again...now I started getting nervous but I still had the "I trained for this and I am FINISHING" attitude. But, by the time I could barely feel it again I decided to stop and go to the bathroom. There was a line but I didn't care. For whatever reason when I was finished going to the bathroom the foot was back to normal and didn't go numb again! Thank goodness!! After the numbness episode I did very well and was running at a less than 10 min per mile and even down to the 8's. My Garmin or my "bitch in box" was telling me to slow down so I knew I was doing well. The toughest part was the end but then I had a big, big surprise...out of nowhere, Texoma joined me on the course and finished with me...he had already finished but ran the last part again so I didn't cross the finish line alone! That was by far the highlight of the race! Please read on for the numbness issue. But to be honest, not at one point did I feel like I couldn't finish...I was completly energized the entire time and to be honest if I had kept the pace I was going at I could have kept going and going and going!!!
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I would have done differently, is to have my parents there! This was my first race without them on the side cheering me on! However, they were cheering from Vegas!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and drank some protein drink and then had 2 pieces of pizza and some beer!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The darn foot going numb.

Event comments:

A chiro there after that was giving massages so I decided to go over and ask about the numbness. He checked me out and told me I was having a problem with my Soleus muscle which is from over useage. He said it is not a major issue but I do need to see someone when I get back to Las Vegas and get it worked on. I am just thankful that I know there is not a MAJOR issue going on and all will be okay. Overall, I am not very happy with my time but considering the fact that my foot was numb from miles 4-7 I can't complain. I do think I may be returning for this event next year!!!! And finally, I have to give a big, big thanks to Texoma, Chile7473, and Rkreuser!!! Without the motivation and support from these three peeps I could not have finished!!! I appreciate all you do for me!!!!
