Pre-race routine:

Walked 2miles at 4:30am to the swim start, ate a powerbar, drank 16 oz cytomax, pumped up bike, set up transition. This would be my first Olympic distance triathlon. Im writing this report before knowing my final time and splits.
Event warmup:

Stretched out, swam ~150 easy.

Swim
  • 38m 1s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

went out slowly, stayed in the back, did not let myself get caught up in the excitment of the start. I did not get to do nearly as much swimming in the past month as I wanted, so I was a little nervous about the swim. Then I started to pass people, when i got to the first buoy I saw about 5-7 people from the wave before me hanging on and resting. Same with the next buoy. I started to feel good and really enjoyed the swim. Ran out of the water feeling energized and confident for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

swim harder from the beginning
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

missed my left foot clipping in like 4 times.
What would you do differently?:

one day i will be able to jump onto a bike while running
Bike
  • 1h 19m 19s
  • 25.5 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

did much better on the second half of the course, I have never said "on your left" so many times in a race before, as I did today. I got used to hearing it, but would rarely say it myself. I really felt great on the bike, felt like a triathlete and not an imposter.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

took my time here a bit more then I should,
What would you do differently?:

transition a little faster
Run
  • 1h 04m 59s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

ran a little slower then I could have, was worried about leg cramps, and the distance, since all I did before were sprints and running is my weakest. Got a bit of a cramp in my right quad at mile 2-3, but was bale to run it off. Felt good overall, seemed to keep comfortable form. Probably did not run as hard as I could have.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, changed clothes, ate fruits, drank water/gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

fear of unknown, first olympic, fear of not finishing because I did not get to train as much as I could have in the past month due to work (ex. in the week preceeding I worked 74hrs in 5days, did not exercise once).

Event comments:

first olympic distance completed and it felt good, it was a good journey, the time on the Finish Clock said 3:11:58, I cant wait to see my specific time and splits.
