Comments:

I wasn't planning on running this - but I didn't want to miss out on the BT Convention, so I entered last minute.

I never felt good during this race. I probably went out too fast but it was hard not to, because everyone was going fast and I didn't want to lose sight of the runners I normally race with.

My legs felt heavy and stiff throughout the race and I really struggled just to keep going. At around 8 or 9 miles I passed the 3rd place girl (who beat me the year before last in this race) and decided that I would do what it takes to not let her pass me. As I passed her I could tell that she was struggling at least as bad as I was... It was hot out there and the concrete bike trail was hammering my legs.

At mile 11 I knew I was going to make it... I also knew that my time was not going to rock. Knowing that after mile 12 there was going to be a big hill to go up into mile 13, I just tried to keep it together and finish strong.

After getting up the hill I charged the last half mile or so and finished with a respectable time... within a few second of my time when I ran it in 2005.
What would you do differently?:

Not race.

I'm glad I did though. This was a tough race, but I got through it and I will probably be stronger because of it. You can't get this type of speed work at the track. Racing really makes you a faster runner. Hopefully it will serve as a physical and mental tune-up for the Wildflower Half Ironman next month.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a few beers and watched fellow Bters finish up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My recent PB half marathon in Moab 2 weeks ago (probably not fully recovered), going out too fast, the sun, poor nutrition/hydration

Event comments:

Fun way to start the month. Lots of BT folks race and that was very cool.
