Swim
Comments: BAD BAD BAD. No warm up. The water was cold and I couldn't catch my breath. I had my goggles kicked off twice. I then could not get my goggles to seal to my head. I had to stop in the middle of all the swimmers 3-4 times in attempt to remedy the situation. I honestly thought of the possibility of stopping. I then realized that the swim cap was underneath the goggles. I was so mad. I then adjusted the goggles and started swimming the remaining 3/4s of the course. My breathing was messed up and I breathed on every stroke instead of every 3rd. My sighting was poor and I was told to get back on course once by a guy on a kayak. I finally made. What would you do differently?: 1) Make sure my goggles are a tight fit. 2) Start towards the back of the group. 3) Look up more often. 4) DON'T PANIC 5) Train more open water. Transition 1
Comments: Exiting the water I saw at least 8 guys ahead of me walking up the stairs to the transition. I was so happy to be out of the water that I sprinted up the stairs past all 8 guys. I had a little difficulty getting the wet suit off my legs. I even uses body glide. What would you do differently?: Not much Bike
Comments: I felt good for most of the bike. I past a lot of people, especially on the up hill. I got passed a few times. This was by far my strongest discipline. What would you do differently?: Drink more. Focus more Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Could have went a little faster. Run
Comments: Very Painful. Like always I catch cramps on the run after the bike but this time was exceptional. I had 2 calf cramps for the first .5 mile. I ran them out and managed a 7:20 first mile. I hit the turn around and I was feeling ok. Around 1.8 miles I caught a TERRIBLE (L)hamstring cramp. I literately fell to the ground and watched 6-7 people fly by me. I actually stopped my watch because I assumed I was done. I sat and stretched it out for about 1 minute. I then got up and tried to walk. Each step was on the cusp of falling. I then worked the walk into a job by swinging my left leg in a straight position. I did this to around 2.5 miles and then I caught a (R) quadriceps cramp. Unbelievable. I then limped into the finish line and fell down like a sissy. What would you do differently?: Figure out this chronic cramp problem. I felt fine aerobically. Post race
Warm down: Stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps. I have tried salt, calcium, pottasium, massage, stretching, overhydradtion and nothing works. I even had the DR. draw blood for a high tech test with no results. I want to work my way up to a 1/2 Iron but these cramps are going to hold me back. Pray that I can figure this problem out. Event comments: The organizers never provided any printouts of the race times, course or transition detail. Much was left up to guessing. Not good for a first time tri guy.
