Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 7am. Got ready to leave the hotel and got a little to eat. Had half a bagel with cream cheese and some gatoraide. Drove to the event with plenty of time to spare.
Event warmup:

The bike was first. Made sure I had used the restroom, hydrated and stretched a bit.
Swim
  • 14m 58s
  • 750 yards
  • 01m / 100 yards
Comments:

I was very surprised I did so well. I haven't swam since last August and did better than last year. I think being in better shape overall helped a lot.
What would you do differently?:

As always, train more. When the pool opens, be sure to work on technique and fitness.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No T1. Swim was the night before.
Bike
  • 44m 8s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I probably could have used more fluids and I need to get in better with those hills. I did pass quite a few and got passed by quite a few. Over all I think I could have done better with more training but it was a good overall effort.
What would you do differently?:

Train more (this is sounding repetitive). Also I need a tune up on the bike. Gears are not shifting perfectly and I'm in bad need of learning bike maint.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition, although I forgot to take of my riding gloves. No worries, I took them off and put them in the pockets of my tri top.
What would you do differently?:

Take off the gloves, taken a drink.
Run
  • 29m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run. Best ever 5k and it was after a bike! Felt great, and I think I had negative splits.
What would you do differently?:

As always keep up the training. I think the run was about as good as it could have been for the training I put in.
Post race
Warm down:

Pizza grapes and bananas!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Some bike maint issues, but mostly lack of training.

Event comments:

Fun race. It was great to meet Mark (dochalladay). That was one of the high points of the event. Great guy and a lot of fun to chat with. I hope to see him at a lot of events this year and in years to come. The event was a lot of fun and the Y did a great job. I do wish they had more drink stations on the run and more information in the packets. They ran out of swim caps and I didn't get one. More info on race times, and where race pictures would be would have been nice in the packet. Overall a fun time!

Super bummed there were no finishing photos?!?
