Swim
Comments: Started at the front as I was ready to burn up the swim. Turned out to be a good and bad thing. Good thing was clear water until we started to catch the wave ahead of us, bad thing was no feet to draft. What would you do differently?: Just continue to swim more and get faster. My technique has improved tremendously over the last few months so I need to work on speed. Transition 1
Comments: Good Transition, I was right inside the gate from the swim exit so I was in and out in a flash. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Where to start...I went out like a scalded cat trying to make up the 3 minutes I was down from the swim. I honestly thought that I could hold 24-25mph for the entire course. At about mile 3 I hit a pothole and ejected my water bottle that had all of my electrolytes in it, not good. Then to add insult to injury my magnet slid down my spoke so I had no speed or distance data, so I just went as hard as I could. Must have worked since I was only passed by 2 people on the bike. With my water bottle gone I didn't take my Hammer Gel as planned. I did get some water from the aid station, but it was to small for my cages so I had to put it in my pocket on the rear of my jersey. What would you do differently?: Get more secure water bottle cages, eat and drink as planned. Transition 2
Comments: Being right inside the gate was awesome. I didn't have to run very far with my bike. Run
Comments: I knew that my goal of a 43:00 run probably wasn't going to happen since I hadn't really eaten or drank on the bike. That being said the first two miles were 7:10 min/miles so I still had some hope of breaking 2:20. I hit the 5k mark at 22:30 and was excited about the fact that I could still be under 2:20 despite doing just about everything wrong nutrition wise. Then came mile 4....my legs decided that they were officially cooked, nevermind we still had 2.2 miles to go. Those last 2.2 miles were sheer willpower and guts. They hurt really bad! What would you do differently?: Eat and drink on the bike, I feel if I had done so as planned that I would have been around 2:15-2:17 or so. Overall not really that bad of a run considering. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and got a water and Gatorade and then went to our club tent to see my wife and kids and cheer on the rest of our team. What limited your ability to perform faster: The whole nutrition thing, and the fact that we walked around WAYYY to much the two days before the race. My legs were actually sore before the race started. All things considered I think my fitness is spot on for Gulf Coast in two weeks. There I will not mess up my nutrition. Event comments: Great race! I will do it again in a few years. Last updated: 2007-04-04 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and drank an Ensure, ate a banana and sipped on Gatorade on the walk down to Transition.
Swam for about 10 minutes, stroke felt great.
