Swim
Comments: Passed two, was passed by one. Swim went well considering it was the second time I swam all month. Didn't push too hard for that reason. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 1
Comments: Longish run, maybe 200 yards, slick cement floor coming out of pool, exit on the far side of the building, then you had to run all the way around to transition. Transition itself was clean, good mount, got up to speed and put on the shoes. What would you do differently?: Nothing, Maybe catch a cab from one side of the natatorium/gymnasium to transition. Bike
Comments: Decent ride. Passed a lot of those fast swimmers, no one passed me. Road surface was crap, first half mile was OK, then it switched to a rough chipseal surface for ~3.5 mile, then last mile to turnaround was better, similar to the first segment. I could see my speed drop ~1mph when I got on the rough surface, then pick up the same amount when I got on the smooth. Bike computer has distance at 10.16 miles, which puts my average right below 23. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Got to ride the roads they give me, too much trouble to bring my own. Transition 2
Comments: Not much running here, good dismount, jumped off the bike running, racked, put helmet on bike and slipped shoes on. Fastened race belt as I left. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was fast. Run
Comments: This was a decent pace considering I've only been back running a month now, and have relatively low volume during that time. Passed a couple of people, had a couple of young guys (seeded higher, I had passed them on the bike) repass me. I had missed pre-race instructions and of course missed a turn. I was going to go back in the street we came out of instead of the correct one, probably ran fifty feet before the volunteers yelled at me and I turned around. The only one who passed me during this mistake was the overall female winner. What would you do differently?: Not much, coming back slowly from the injury, still need to get another good month of base work before I start to do tempo and speed work to fine-tune the pace. Post race
Warm down: Just stood around and drank Powerade, watched Dylan, then Angel transition off the bike, then waited for them to finish. Turns out we each got second in our respective age groups, Dylan in his first tri ever, and Angel with her first hardware! What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much, this was a good early season "B" race. Person that beat me in my AG is a super-strong runner (and super-nice guy) whom I've never beaten, luckily he ages up next year. Event comments: First time we had done this one, small, short race, but well organized and competitive. Lots of amenities, good food post-race, dozens of door prizes. AG medals were nice as well. Good first-time race with a short pool swim. Last updated: 2007-04-04 12:00 AM

Woke up, coffee, two bagels, shower, shave, dressed. Finished loading car, and drove less than an hour to Eunice. Picked up numbers, pumped up tires, then set up transition. Angel, Dylan and I were doing this one, Dylan's first tri.
A little more than six miles on the bike, short jog.
