Swim
Comments: Started near the front (not at the front), was confident and quick dropped back...see below. Time includes probably 1'30" of transition, little slower than I would have like, but did run into some problems. First 10" into the start someone knocks my goggles off. Got kicked in the neck and cheek. Cut my right big toe on the slick cement exiting the water (didn't realize it until the bike). Also forgot my goggles so my father-in-law bailed me out and went to Prairie Life and got some crappy leaky goggles for me, turned out better than nothing. What would you do differently?: If it wasn't for the goggles getting knocked off I really swam well, probably did the first half a little slow but I pushed it coming home. Transition 1
Comments: Little slow I thought, the transition area was very near the water exit so I was a little more wet than at Heritage Park Tri. What would you do differently?: I missed my pedals a couple of time (probably lost 5" max), until I finally just jumped on, should have just jumped on in the first place, it's pretty easy - if it's not crowded and you have the room. Bike
Comments: 1/3 of the course is technical, so I felt pretty good, got passed by 1 or 2, but passed quite a few myself. I could tell something was wrong with my big toe about 1/2 way into the first loop, didn't hurt too bad and felt like a blister...but when would I have gotten a blister already? What would you do differently?: I pushed hard, pace was just right. I was a little tired getting going but relaxed and did well. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. Did have a guy in a relay getting ready to run and stretching out about 1 foot way from me while in my transition, just as I'm ready to take off for the run he says, "I guess I can move". He wasn't in the way and didn't bother me, but it was just one of those things you'd think they'd be aware of. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Good run, tough first 1/2 mile getting the legs loosened up. At the turn around I was feeling good and there is a little downhill grade, started to kick it in and really finished great. Passed a couple of guys to get my top 10 and was not passed on the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had a banana, 3 sports drinks and a water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cut on my big toe didn't limit me as I thought it would. The swim was kind of a whirlwind to start, but it didn't effect my time that much. Event comments: If I would have won I could put my bloody sock in the Papio Tri Hall of Fame, as it is, it will be washed and reused in another attempt to win. Parents and father-in-law were in attendence, nice having them there. Cut on toe is limiting my walking ability post race. Weird how I didn't really notice it during the run. F-I-L got some good video so we watched that after the race. No chip timing is kind of a let down, need to do a better job of hitting my lap button. Last updated: 2007-04-05 12:00 AM
