Pre-race routine:

my first triathlon. got up & drove to race...about an hour away. i tried, but couldn't eat my bagel with peanut butter. i was just too nervous. my stomach was all butterfyish and i felt like i had to poo.
Event warmup:

some stretching. ate a Gu and some water about 30 minutes before the swim. then, froze my a$$ off waiting for my wave's turn to start.

  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

didn't do too bad. should have positioned myself more towards the front. sighting was good. took it easy and did not have a hard time breathing. water was super weedy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

bike ride sucked. i have a mountain bike with chunky tires. i was getting passed like i was standing still. very tortoise & hare...except w/o the tortoise catching up.
What would you do differently?:

get a faster bike

Run
  • 46m 26s
  • 3 miles
  • 15m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

surprisingly, i had plenty of energy on the run. as instructed by the nice gentleman @ the Summit City Fitness and Bicycles shop, i stuffed my energy jelly beans in my shorts and ate them throughout the run. somewhere around mile 1.25, i tripped over my own feet while turning a corner and took a little spill. yes…people saw. dammit. i skinned up my knee pretty good, but didn't severely injure myself. so, I got up, brushed off the dirt and stones & kept running. When I had less than a ¼ mile to go, I saw my boyfriend (bf) and our dog. bf told me I was doing well and that the finish line was just around the curve. they ran with me the rest of the way. there was still a crowd at the finish line to cheer on us last few finishers. i saw mom, dad, and my brother and I started to tear up a little. This was such a big accomplishment for me…they were proud of me and I was proud of myself…it was very emotional.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
