Run
Comments: I was pleased with how my first 10K went. It was nice having the flat and downhill miles in the beginning to warm-up on before hitting some of the hills. The hills were not too bad though, (at least I thought.) Just tried to keep leaning forward and focusing on my breathing. Around mile 3 it felt like one of my toenails got caught on the top-inside of my shoe and it hurt a bit throughout the rest of the race but I felt way too good (heart-rate and body) to stop and check it out. I was back in the 5 group so I had to do a lot of weaving to get around a lot of people. Picked up the pace some on the last mile when I realized I had good energy to spare. What would you do differently?: -Go at a faster pace! -Do another 10K that I could put my time down from and try to get a better number so I don't have to do so much weaving (we got our numbers off e-bay!) -Cut me toenails short next time! =) Post race
Warm down: Got a bottle of water and went to stand in the crazy long line for a size small shirt. While in line I did some stretching. My toe was still hurting so I took my shoe and sock of to check it out. Sock was soaked in blood and my 2nd toe was still bleeding some under the nail. Washed it off with my water then put my sock and shoe back on until I could tend to it after I got home. (I live on the park.) Got my shirt, met up with Adam, stretched some more, then headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: -Never running a 10K before and not training for it -Toe bleeding and causing some pain while running =( Event comments: Awesome race to do! Lots of music being played (both recorded and live) which helped make the race go quick. Plenty of official drink stations along with many kind spectators handing out water of their own and ice. Props to the people who put this race on! I will definitely do this race again next year! Last updated: 2007-04-07 12:00 AM

Got up around 5:00 and ate a half of a bagel with PB and sliced bananas on top around 5:30. Drank a little bit of Gatorade then sipped on water the rest of the time leading up to the race. When we got to the race Adam and I were going to our 5 area which was almost gated off with a woman monitoring to make sure the proper numbers were coming through. A guy in front of us had a 9000 number but was trying to go through the 5000 gate and the woman went crazy on him when he wouldn't listen to her and was trying to barge through anyway. Last thing I saw was the woman getting the cop on the side and the cop going after the guy. Crazy!
Stretched a little bit but I had decided to let my first couple of miles be my warm-up since I had never run anything over 3.5 miles and wanted to have all the juice I could have to get through the race.
