Swim
Comments: During the pre-race instructions we heard a little bit of thunder way way off in the distance. Never saw any lightning, and it really seemed like the thunder was really far to the west. Found out later from my wife that right at that time there were heavy thunderstorms at my home which is about 20 miles west of the race site. Nothing the RD could do about it since a guy from the NY State Park Service was telling him we couldn't swim. I was really disappointed that the swim was canceled. I don't really like swim training, but I really love the swim in a tri. I like swimming in the open water where I can see the trees and the sky, and I don't have to look at that stupid black line in the bottom of the pool. I like the crowd, and I don't even mind the occasional bump or kick. Oh well, next race. The run itself was short and uneventful. Transition 1
Comments: I have no idea what took so long. I think that sometimes I waste time thinking that I must have forgotten something. I really should practice transitions. What would you do differently?: Practice! Bike
Comments: Very happy with the bike. Passed probably 20 people mostly while climbing. Even passed a couple people from the first wave. I could have probably gone faster on the big descent, but I'm a bit of a chicken going fast and this part of the course is pretty curvy and you can't see too far ahead because of all the trees, so you can't really see too much of what's ahead of you. I think if I were more familiar with the course I would have done a little better here. What would you do differently?: Brake less down the big hill Transition 2
Comments: Way too slow. What would you do differently?: Practice and WAKE UP. Run
Comments: My legs felt great coming off the bike; a little fatigued, but no soreness or cramping. Weekly bricks seem to be working. I liked being on trails through the woods because it was very pleasant. However, I didn't like the ruts and rocks. I've never done any trail running, and at times the awkward footing slowed me down a little. I knew there was a guy in my age group not far behind me the whole run, and I was hoping to be able to hold him off, but with less than half a mile to go he passed me, and I just couldn't keep up. He ended up beating me by 14 seconds. I did NOT like being passed at the end, but I couldn't really have run any harder at the finish. I could have easily made up that time in transitions, though. What would you do differently?: Not much Post race
Warm down: Walked and drank water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't train enough, transitions, transitions, transitions, and I'm not a very fast runner. Transitions. Event comments: This was SBR's first race, and it went OK. A shame about the swim, but there's nothing anyone could do about that. Last updated: 2007-04-08 12:00 AM

Nice to have a race only a half hour from home. Had a protein shake with berries and cream about 2 hours before the start.
A little bit of jogging.
