Swim
Comments: I was in the first wave- under 39. I started in the middle so there was lots of jostling at first, I mixed in some breast stroke until it thinned out. I had a decent swim for me, better than at splash & dash. Before I knew it I was heading back to the steps and 2 people pulled me out. Looked at my watch once I was up over the platform and had taken my cap and goggles off. Transition 1
Comments: The run from the lake to transition was long and slippery on concrete then grass. Found my bike and dried off my feet. I didn't dry my body as it was HOT out and I wanted to stay wet. Put on my running shoes (no clips on my bike) and headed off. I'm guessing my time in transition because there were no splits. Bike
Comments: I did good on the bike. It was easy to pass and be passed, the roads were OK and I was able to drink almost all my water bottle. I really started to feel it getting hot and started to worry about the run. Transition 2
Comments: I came into transition and ran past my bike rack (not sure how I could have missed it- the lady next to me had a smiley face balloon on her rack). When I stopped to look around, the lady behind me ran into my bike and got her pedals tangled in my spokes. We untangled and I racked my bike, put on my ball cap and headed out on the run. What would you do differently?: Not forget where my rack is. Run
Comments: I was hot the minute I started on the run. This was a very poor run for me. I usually run better off the bike, my pace was about 1 min/mile slower than usual. My legs felt good but I was just overheated. I told myself to suck it up because it was just as hot for everyone else. I worried about my foot for a while as it felt achey but it didn't get any worse. I passed a few women right away who were walking, then I was passed by a few women from the 40 + age group that started after us. At the aid station I dumped a cup of water on my head. I was sorry i did that as it was the only aid station, except for a drinking fountain I found right before the hill to the bridge. I was so glad when I came up the hill onto the bridge and could see the finish. It was also great to see the East Valley BTers near the finish line :) What would you do differently?: Well, I live in the hot desert- maybe I should get out and run in the heat sometimes to get used to it :) Post race
Warm down: No warm down, just tried to cool down. My face matched my pink tri outfit, lol! I caught up with the BTers and waited to watch sportyj finish- it was her first tri and she did awesome! What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat- it drained me on the run. Event comments: This was a fun race and for a great cause. I wish had been cooler or started a bit earlier- the 8am start meant it was hot for the run. A big thanks to the BTers who cheered us on in the heat- Tanya, Chris, Robin, Harry & Robot- you guys are awesome. And thanks for taking pictures! Also saw Ironman Andy out there with his cute dogs :) I didn't hang out long at the end as I wanted to get home and take a shower. This will be my last tri until fall and it was a good one :) Last updated: 2007-04-10 12:00 AM

I was so excited to do this race- but my foot starting hurting again after a run on wednesday. The day before the race I went to my sports doc and had him check out my foot. He iced and taped it for me which helped :) And I promised him I would rest it for a while after the race.
I didn't have the best pre-race routine today. I was up at night with a sick kid and slept very little. I was not hungry at all in the morning so I tried to wash some graham crackers down with gatorade.
I got to the race early. Bike racks were pre-assigned by number. I met up with some fellow BTers and it was so nice to see friendly faces there. I didn't feel so tired and nervous once I had some friends to hang out with. We listened to the pre race instructions and I took one look at Tempe town lake- yuck!. The organizer said that there were a lot of first time tri-ers, I can't remember the % but it was high.
This was the biggest race I have done and my 2nd OWS. I had butterflys because of the swim and was also worried my foot wouldn't hold up. I tend to worry a lot.
