Swim
Comments: I made it and didn't get kicked in the face or inhale too much water. people were passing everywhere and really became a nightmare at the flip-turns. Yeah I rested, but at least I had the common sense to get under the rope and to the FAR corner out of the main path of other swimmers. What would you do differently?: learn to swim better would be a good place to start, followed by proper breathing techniques. stay ahead of everyone else behind me. Transition 1
Comments: I'm a first timer.. wet feet & socks didn't want to get along. What would you do differently?: run to transition area, run bike out. go through motions a couple times a week before event. get shoes that I don't have to tie or something I can bike and run in without socks. Bike
Comments: borrowed mountain bike had trouble shifting gears. stayed in 3 gears through road part. knobby tires not good for road races. but at least I had a bike to use. What would you do differently?: Buy and train on my own bike. Transition 2
Comments: legs buckled hopping off bike, took a couple of seconds to re-coup. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: area from top of foot to middle of shin very tight. took a long time (over 2 miles) to loosen up enough for full stride. Had a guy run the course a second time as my impromptu coach.. verbally pushed me through the sprint. (haven't been yelled at like that since the military) I greatly appreciated it. The water station ran out of water before the remainder of the runners got there so they left! What would you do differently?: wear a cap/visor, drink more fluids on the 1st half of the bike section Post race
Warm down: short walk around transition area - light stretching clif bar and 2 bottles of water What limited your ability to perform faster: only had 2 weeks to train before event. lack of knowledge about how the tri thing all works. using borrowed equipment. Event comments: I had fun, which was one of my goals, and I finished (the other goal). now that I have a year to prepare, I know I'll do better next time. I like these Sprint Tri's, and I hope I get to do more around the area, may even attempt some that are lake swims later in the summer. If you've never done one before, this is the one to do. It's a great place to learn and to be proud of your personal accomplishments! Last updated: 2007-04-10 12:00 AM

Clif bar smothered in peanut butter at 5:30am followed by protein drink, 8 oz of gatorade @ 8:00. got to transition area early and picked a nice outside spot, chatted with others as they came in and did their set-up.
a little walking from here to there and back again. didn't want to burn what little energy I had before the swim started.
