Comments:

Was wearing my new Fuel Belt I picked up at the expo. Planned on running 7:00 pace, but with downhill course & wind at my back, I felt comfortably sticking with 6:40's. Started midway in the 6:00 pace group. Should've started closer to the elites because probably lost 20 seconds passing people the first mile. Drank around 3oz of gatorade at 2 miles. Then at mile 4 and 6, drank about 3 oz of gatorade mixes with crreatine. And another couple oz at 7.5 & 8.5. Calves starting really hurting halfway (damn 7.6oz race shoes!)
What would you do differently?:

Start right behind the elites. Had more energy in the fuel tank, but I knew it would be at the expense of my calves. Have a 5k tomorrow (tuesday) at lunch at work (may have to miss) and another 5k on Saturday which I was hoping to get sub-19 for the first time.

Post race
Warm down:

drank water and new gatorade endurance (some real potent shit!), and had 2 phl pretzels. stretched.... felt calf and foot cramping coming on during stretches, but never happened. When finally got back to the car - about 1 mile walk - got to stick-down the calves and apply biofreeze, which took away the pain. When got to Chickie & Pete's, took 2 ibuprofen and 1 beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf soreness, and crowding at the start.

Event comments:

Tons of volunteers, very well organized, plenty of water & gatorade -stations - although I didn't need them. Had about 4 places in the course where fire hydrant was spraying the course... could've used without that in the first half of the race because it was too cold, and caused congestion and jumping out of the water's way. Wind was in your face only for about 2 blocks.... rest of time was slight-cross and mostly tail-wind.
