Pre-race routine:

Race started at 7am and we had to leave at 6am. Had about 1/2 cup of granola with 3/4 plain no fat yogourt, and an espresso, at 5:40.
Event warmup:

Didn't do much stretching or anything such before the race. It's a warm-up-as-you-go thing for me.
Run

  • 05m 20s  min/km
Comments:

Walked through the water stations (well the first four of them, ignored the fifth less than 2.5km from the finish). I kept a pretty much even pace, including up the hill I think. I was just a bit under what I had planned (5:30). If it hadn't been for the downhill from Prospect Point I would have had a slightly better race, but my quads were really hurting and I didn't feel like making them hurt more. I had two gels, one before water station #2 (or five) and one before water station #4 (coming down the hill). I think that was right.
What would you do differently?:

I think I was dressed properly for the weather.
Post race
Warm down:

Wrapped myself in a plastic blanked. Had a yogourt and a banana and some more water. Some stretching but not much. Big breakfast afterwards (eggs potatoes toast sausage).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My quads that hurt from the downhill. My will to stay on pace myself at 5:30. (That was a conservative choice but I'm glad I made it.)

Event comments:

I had a good time in general, I just wished I had some more warm clothes at the finish but it's a detail. Considering that this was a first for me, I'm really really happy.
