Swim
Comments: I have been working on swimming freestyle over the winter. I did breaststroke in all of my tri's last year. This was going to be my first time to freestyle. I jumped in and started swimming. I felt pretty good the first 50 yards and then realized I was going way too hard. I did a couple of breaststrokes to get calmed down, and then continued freestyling. I caught up to someone and had to slow down. I had to wait to go around her at the wall. Also at this point the guy behind me decides to swim under me because I guess he thinks I'm the one going slow. Well for the final 50 yards I had to wait on this guy because there wasn't any room to go around him. Overall I was still very pleased with my time. I would never been able to swim that fast last year. What would you do differently?: Continue to swim. I'm proud I was able to freestyle most of it. Transition 1
Comments: Ran to the bike put on my HRM strap, shirt, bike shoes, helmet, and sun glasses. Unracked my bike, run up the hill, clipped in and I was off. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: My heartrate was up pretty high for about the first 2 miles. I was just excited to be on the bike, and there were a few hills to begin with. I told myself to take a few deep breaths and calm down. I got my heart rate down and got into a good rhythm. I was very pleased with my bike split. I'm a lot faster than I was last year. What would you do differently?: Push harder on the downhills instead of coasting. I was pleased with my ride. Transition 2
Comments: I have been practicing taking my feet out of my shoes and dismounting. No problems doing that. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I really have been working on getting faster on my swim and bike. I was please to see the improvement in those 2 areas. I haven't really worked running faster, just running the distance. I could tell by all the people that were passing me. I was shooting for 20 minutes, so I wasn't too far off my goal. What would you do differently?: I should have pushed harder, the last quarter mile I realized I should have been running harder. O'well. Post race
Warm down: Hugged my wife and daughter and told them thanks for being here and supporting me. Drank some water and took it easy. What limited your ability to perform faster: Run faster. I will continue to work on all three areas, but will start to get faster on the run. Event comments: This is the first time I have done this race. I was please with the race. This is a good first timer's race. Last updated: 2007-04-18 12:00 AM

Had my stuff packed and bike on car the night before. Woke up about 5:30, ate 2 pieces of toast and drank some Gatorade. Got dress and we were off.
Setup my transition area, and just waited for my turn to swim.
