  • 21m 54s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I don't know where the 8:46 pace came from. I am ususally a 10.5 to 11 runner. I even walked the water stand on the way back cause I was watching the short couse guys finishing their second run.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time working on running and endurance. I need to run no less than 4 times a week.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 Times were blocked into the bike. The black box failed so the system didn't pick up the chip crossing in, just out on the bike. I do remember it beeping when we crossed.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get there earlier and get an end space. I found a middle row was good so you never had to run with the bike the entire distance of the transition area.

Comments:

My bike really needs to be replaced. On the way into transition to set up, the guy putting air in the tires goes, "Wow, vintage Specialized Allero, if you ever want to sell it let me know". I could hang with some people on the hills, but they would pull away in the flats. My bike just isn't fast enough. Plus add the crappy gear ratios and I am set up for disaster. I did enjoy the couple of times looking down and seeing the speedo registering mid 30's. It was especially fun doing 35 through a 20 MPH school zone.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on hills. Get a new bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Run
  • 28m 5s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 11m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Same run course as first. I saw my Wife and boys coming out of the transition. I ran until I was out of sight of the transition area. My calves were totally cramping. I stopped at the ball fields and streched them out a little. I don't know if it was from dehydration or just overuse. I did a run/walk combo. I would run until my calves wouldn't let me, then walk until I could tolerate running again. About the 2 mile marker, my thights joind in and too started to cramp. The big muscle on the inside right above the knee started in. This is the same group that gave me probs on the run leg of RSF last year. I think the muscle cramps are from poor position on the bike and then running.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time running after biking. (I hear it's called a brick.)

Event comments:

I am disappointed with my results on this one. I finished last in my age group and was in some serious pain at the end. I really need to get a plan and find a way to schedule workouts into my day. By the time they got results posted far enought back to include my time I was ready to cancel registration for RSF and leave my bike with Brian from CycleX. Also my time was so far back the timing equipt started fuking up and my times were all screwed up so I couldn't even gauge my splits with other. I don't think I have ever been this disappoined and I am not sure I am cut out for this. I enjoy training and participating, but I don't enjoy finishing as far behind everyone else as I do.

Course: Brutal would be a better term for the wind. I am glad I didn't have a rear disk. The wind whistling through my helmet was deafening. The hills were a bit much for me too. I need a different ratio on the bike for gearing. Front is 52/42 and rear is 11/23. I like the 52/23 ration when I am on the flats but the 42/23 doesn't go through the hills very well.
