Run
Comments: Felt good and for me was a respectable time. Didn't want to over do things as I have done that in the past. Everyone in the age group seemed to blow by me in this first run section. What would you do differently?: Nothing I could have done differently I don't think. Transition 1
Comments: Since it was cool, spent a little more time getting into a long sleeved shirt for the bike. I also messed about with bike gloves that took some extra time. Not a very good transition. What would you do differently?: Would have run with my Gloves on and the long sleeved shirt maybe. Bike
Comments: Hard race on the bike. Hills were harder than I expected. Did manage to get up to 51k/h on the downhills though to make up a little time on the section. What would you do differently?: Spend more time training on hills. Transition 2
Comments: Struggled with the gloves again. Trying to get them off. Also had a hard time with the running shoes as I had not left them in a good position and needed to open the laces up a bit before taking off. What would you do differently?: Leave the gloves on, open the running shoes properly when taking them off after the first run. Run
Comments: Harder than before. Need to practice with the brick workouts that's for sure. A 75 year old guys blew by me at the mid point of this run segment and then I caught up with a 12 year old. But he wouldn't letme pass him on the final stretch. What would you do differently?: Practice with more brick workouts. Post race
Warm down: Got some food from the transition area, stretched a little at the racks and then spend time collecting my wife and dog and had a sandwich. What limited your ability to perform faster: I have an extra 15lbs on me than I should have, and also limited practice on the transitions and also the brick workouts. I feel I could have completed in at least 5 minutes faster with more practice. Event comments: Good race, will look do doing this next year now that I have a benchmark to work from for this event. Waterloo is about 1hr 30minutes away. Due to traffic concerns (sometimes the main highway is a mess, and it being long weekend), we left home at 7:30am after loading the car with change of clothes, bike stuff, and the dog's stuff. Before that had a bagel with butter and an orange juice. The roads were good, so we made it to the race site by 9am. Registered and got my shirt, bib and body marked. Then headed over and put the bike in transition area. Took and end spot on the rail.
Race start scheduled for 11am, so spent the next 1.5 hours wandering the area, keeping warm (was about 10c) under the sun. About 10:55, did about a 1k warm up around the area and on the run course and then headed to the start. They had a wave start, with the M45-49 in wave 5, so didn't start the race until 11:12.
