Swim
Comments: Was hoping to swim around a 5:20 but they didn't start you off by seat time. They just let whoever start wherever they wanted. This put about 15 people in front of me that swam it in probably 6 or more min. Really slowed me down at the walls as they kept taking the inside path and cutting me off. At one point we had 4 ppl at the wall at once. i just said screw it and pushed them out of my way. I don't like not being nice but i was getting frustrated and they should have lined up better. What would you do differently?: just cut in front of people before the race start. Transition 1
Comments: Was a long run from the pool to the transition area. I didn't mind the barefeet on the asphalt/concrete but wasn't prepared to run that fast/far right after the swim. Didn't leave shoes clipped into pedals. didn't practice it enough before hand to feel confident I wouldn't take out my future children and/or fall over. What would you do differently?: Leave shoes on bike Bike
Comments: The Start was slightly downhill which was nice to get clipped in. Had two HUGE speed bumps right on the way out. had to take those slow. The largest hill on the course was right after these speed bumps so getting back to speed and into a comfortable cadence before these was hard. I was dying for the first mile of the ride or so. I did no swim to bike work and it hurt. was definitely the hardest part of the race. Struggled to get my breathing and heartrate in check. After the first 1.5-2 miles i got into a grove and felt great. at about 2 miles left I picked it up and tried to makeup for the first 2 miles. What would you do differently?: Practice biking after a hard swim. Possible not push the 1st mile as hard and let my HR get back down before starting to push Transition 2
Comments: My rack was very near the entrance/exit for the bike portion so it made running in my bike shoes easy. Got turned slightly around on exiting for the run so probably added 10 sec. there. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to path to take to run exit. Run
Comments: Running off the bike wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Still didn't get moving until about a mile in. I'm a slow runner so anything with avg pace under 9/mile is good for me. definitely negative split it. did the last 1.5 miles in 12:45 so with some more brick work should be able to drop my time easily What would you do differently?: Practice running off the bike a bit more. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and talked to my parents and a friend from college i hadn't seen in 4+ years while we waited for my sister to finish. she did great on very little training. We both had a blast What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need to bike/run more. Would like to drop 30-40 sec. in the swim for this distance. i have the potential just need to get in the pool 5 or so times a week Event comments: Not having a frame of reference to go by since this was my first race i'd still have to say that it was a very organized race. Would make a great first race for anyone. All the volunteers and police officers were very nice and cheered you on. I thanked them all for the support. Last updated: 2007-04-22 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:30. Put on my tri shorts and sweat pants and sweat shirt. Took a gu banana had some water and brushed my teeth. Left the house about 5:50 for the race. Got to the race shortly after transitions opened at 6:30. Setup and talked to a few people
Did a 500 swim warmup with some sprints thrown in to get the feel for pacing the long course. Felt pretty good. Ran about .75 miles to warmup. was a little stiff but after i got my heart rate up it felt pretty good. Biked maybe 2 miles to make sure everything was operating correctly.
