Swim
Comments: swim went well. i passed 1 person after 150 meters and then had open water the rest of the way. time includes getting out of the pool and 30 yard run to the mat, so pretty fast time for me. What would you do differently?: nothing. Transition 1
Comments: i decided to go without socks so it was faster than last year. it doesn't look like i gave up much time this year. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: it was cold to start the bike, but i settled in and warmed up pretty quickly. i rode 100 miles the day before, so i wasn't sure what to expect, but i felt good. i pushed it a little, but i could tell i would be a little slower than last year (partly the strong winds and partly the heavy week of training). i didn't get passed at all, but it's obvious i'm losing time on the bike to anyone in the top slots. What would you do differently?: nothing. happy for not tapering or training for sprints. Transition 2
Comments: dismount was fantastic, but had trouble getting the bike to stand up in the new usat racks. i guess i should have practiced that during set up, but it went in so easily before the race it didn't even cross my mind. What would you do differently?: look at new racks more closely. Run
Comments: luckily i can run. i gave up time all day, but was able to end well. i was very happy with the run. i pr'd at a 5k on friday, so i wasn't sure if i would be fully recovered. i felt ok and was actually pretty comfortable. i tried to catch a guy on the final turn, but he was able to hold me off with a good sprint. that's always fun. What would you do differently?: nothing. Post race
Warm down: strectched and talked with 3558 and daremo who both had awesome races. waited for ron and k to come in. they both had great races too and came in before i was expecting them. we grabbed some food and were ready to head out with the whole day left to do nothing! wthe results were posted, but i counted wrong and thought i got 4th again this year so we took off. i ended up getting 3rd! not sure what you get for that, but i'll have to make arrangments to pick it up. What limited your ability to perform faster: in the last 4 days, i ran 17 miles, rode 38 miles, ran a 5k, and then rode 100 miles, so i wan't exactly tapered. generically though, i need to do more specific bike training and speedwork if i'm going to try to be competitive. Event comments: for a small local sprint, this is a great race. they are very organized, fun, chip timing is perfect, and i like the post race food. for being in a development, i really like the course. there are small things like inconvenient packet pickup and the race starting late as well as things outside their control like the transition set up incorrectly (bike in/out has to be the same in that parking lot). all in all though i would definitely recommend this race for anyone. it was a 6:45 start. we had everything packed and ready to go the night before so we woke up ~4:30, had a bagel and threw the bikes on the car. once there, we set up the transition area, got body marked and picked up our chip, and then headed to the bathroom. we sat around in the foyer to stay out of the cold until the sun came up.
none. i thought about going for a quick ride or run to see how the legs were feeling, but decided against it. instead, i hopped up and down to try to stay warm. we also got to watch jon do the swim. he is a special olympics athlete that does this tri every year. he seems like a good guy and it's pretty cool to see him out there.
