Swim
Comments: The water was pretty cold so I was glad that I got the Promotion sleeves to wear under my Promotion sleeveless wetsuit. I took it too easy on the swim. I was barely breathing hard when I got out of the water. I used earplugs and I wasn't dizzy at all so that was good. What would you do differently?: Swim harder! Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble getting the wetsuit off, and then I seemed a little lost. First race of the year and I didn't practice transitions. Bad idea. I also just didn't rush enough like there was no sense of urgency. This was the first time I had the nerve to wear one of those tight tri tops in public, so not having to put on a shirt in T1 was a plus. What would you do differently?: Practice!! Bike
Comments: One of the reasons I did this race was because of the long bike segment that was really flat. I just put aerobars on my road bike about a month ago and on my training rides I haven't used them as much as I would like because of the hills that I train on. It's not so much that it's hilly but that the hills are short so I shift a lot. I wanted to see how I would do staying in the aerobars for an extended time. The first 20 miles I was aero nearly the whole time, and the last 9 miles, probably 75% of the time.I was pretty comfortable most of the time, so that was good. I am disappointed with this ride because I should have ridden harder. I had way too much gas in the tank at the end. I was overly cautious because I didn't know how I would do on such a flat ride. What would you do differently?: Ride harder!! Transition 2
Comments: No T2 split was provided, so I used the time from my watch. Had a little trouble tying my shoes. What would you do differently?: Get Yankz maybe. Run
Comments: I had not planned to run hard; I wanted to do it more like a training run, so even though I was slow I am happy with this time. The time is from my watch, because I think the official time includes T2. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank some water. They had some chicken to eat which was a very nice touch since I don't eat bagels. Got to say hi to leayag from my mentor group who had a hard time on the swim but toughed out the rest of the race and finished well. Felt great because it's only the end of April and I've already done the first tri of the season. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't train enough. I'm slow, and I didn't push myself hard enough. I approached this race more like a training day, but I still should have done way better on the bike. I have to toughen up a little mentally and push myself harder. Event comments: I liked this race a lot; good location, nice people and early in the season. Also a good shirt, "dri-fit" but soft and with a nice picture. The only drawbacks were it was pricey, and no T2 split.I will probably do this race again next year (unless I do St. A's), and I may do their October race since it's the latest race in the season within reasonable driving distance. Woke up at 3:30 to leave at 4 for 2.5 hour drive. Should have gone to bed before midnight. 3 hours of sleep was not a good plan. Peanut butter protein shake about 2 hours before start.
Little bit of running.
