Run
Comments: That hurt. But I think for what I put into it late in the game, I couldn't have gone much faster. Don't know my exact splits, but I know the first mile was 10:30, and they must have been getting progressively faster or I was maintaining a faster speed because with each mile I was getting closer to a 10 min avg. Then everything started getting pretty freakin' tough between 7-8. What would you do differently?: Train. Adhere to the nothing new on race day LAW...i.e. I thought they'd have gatorade, not powerade, which may have contributed to some GI issues, along with GU, which I hadn't trained a lot with. I'd probably place some strategic Vaseline, to head off any chaffing, without having to wait until a med tent crops up and have to jog down a busy throughfare trying to tactfully lube up your crotch. Had I been able to race it, I would not have been happy with where I started; my wife and mom were walking the 5k and said I passed them after the start. Post race
Warm down: Hobbled to our family meeting point. Then hobbled to where gear check was, although they moved it. So I took up residence on a curb while my wife went to get the car and my bag. Lots of explosive vomiting. As soon as that happened, I felt a lot better. What limited your ability to perform faster: May have come out of the gate too quick, but didn't really feel too bad until about 7.5 miles in or so. Training was definitely an issue. Event comments: I don't remember seeing the fact that the drink stations would have Powerade on the website. I'm sure the post-race activities were awesome. I was too busy filling a flowerbed with everything I drank that morning. Last updated: 2007-04-29 12:00 AM
