Event comments: The goal for this race was twofold: meet a bunch of BTers, drink beer, and not hurt my knee. Wait, that's three things. Anyway... :) Had a great time meeting everyone at Marino's last night! I need to add a bunch of people to my log list, so I can check in and annoy you now. This is going to be a fairly short race report, as I'm too tired to be elaborate. I am home, and beat! Remind me not to set up weekends where I have to drive down barely in time to check the bike in one night, get up at 4:30 AM to get ready to race the next day, and drive 3 hours home after the race to get Alana to symphony. My race plan was to swim as fast as I'm capable (not very), bike hard, and walk most of the run, as I've been having some knee issues. They are probably IT band related and I think I'll be better soon, but I didn't want to set my recovery back today and knew I couldn't run the whole thing. I planned on running 1 minute out of every four and I did just that, only cheating after mile 5 when I did a couple of 1 on/1 off intervals, and then ran in the last .2 miles. So, anyway.. Swim was about par for me; I wish I was faster but it was comfortable. Bike went well; I passed approximately 4 zillion people and was passed by 6, two of which I re-passed. I had a bike marshal on the motorcycle shadowing me a good bit; I think I had 3-4 drafters for portions of the ride until I picked it up and they fell off. That made me a bit paranoid and I spent the last 4-5 miles taking it a bit too easy as there were just too many corners to pass as many people as I'd've liked, and I didn't want a drafting penalty. I think I left a couple of minutes out there, but oh well. I have to say there were a TON of fast bikes being ridden by slow people. I never saw so many Zipp wheels and aero helmets trucking along at 16 mph. :) The chip must've hiccuped somewhere as I didn't get a T1 time, just the bike/T1 combined. I biked a 1:06:xx according to my watch, with about a 3 minute T1. Got off the bike and set out on my Knee Saver (TM) plan outlined above. I would feel some knee pain starting and stopping, but otherwise it wasn't too bad. I needed some of those power walker dumbbells for the finishing touch, though. :) I wish I could've stayed for beer and post race festivities but had to drive immediately home, salt encrusted shorts and all. I had to get my daughter to symphony, and she was still late, but oh well..life (and triathlon) get in the way sometimes! It's good to be home and sitting down. Last updated: 2007-04-29 12:00 AM
