Run
Comments: This was a training run for me and I hit all of my marks right on target. I felt strong from beginning to end. I was particularly pleased with how I felt on the hills. Yes, I far from "crushed it" on the hills (between Miles 3 and 5), but I accelerated up both of them and felt good in the process. What would you do differently?: Nada... Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a couple of waters, found the NAMC/BT crew at the "T" balloon and then connected with David at the UPS tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training...Definitely planning to run at least one more 10K this year and submit a time for next year. I'd like to be in one of the forward TG's next year. Event comments: Had a great time today. The weather was perfect and I looked forward to running the P'tree after a long hiatus. As today's run plan called for a 5 mile tempo run, with 3 miles @ 9:16 pace or faster, I couldn't have asked for a better context. Being in TG 6 meant I had no way of starting out too fast, but it did mean a fair amount of bobbing and weaving as the run progressed. And being in TG 6 also meant a LONG wait to cross the "Start" line. The race started @ 7:30AM; I crossed the "Start" line at 8:16. The first mile WAS slow, but then things opened up enough to be able to pick up the pace to where I needed to be; I accomplished my goal and then just enjoyed the rest of the run to Piedmont Park. Once in the park, I grabbed my t-shirt and walked over to the "T" balloon to try and connect with the NAMC/BT crew. Let's see, I saw Ant, David, Jonathan, Jamie, Rock Star (aka Andrew), Steven, Kraig, Courtney, Ron, & Chris Z. - did I miss anybody? After chatting for a few minutes, I headed up to the UPS tent to connect with my "free beer" connection. The plan was to get a beer or two and then see if I could do same for members of the aforementioned group; unfortunately, "free beer connection" (aka David) doesn't get along with his UPS connections' girlfriend...so, after chatting for about 30 seconds, we bolted. Fortunately, some members of the NAMC crew were headed to Jocks and Jills and we headed that way too. Once there, Felix and his wife (Anna?) and Ron's wife, Leslie, showed up with their respective young ones in tow. It was fun seeing the little ones, drinking a couple of beers, chatting with folks from our crew and folks from the Concourse Tri Club (my neighbor is a member of CTC), and cheering on the walkers who brought up the rear of today's PRR. Woke up a little before 6AM, dressed, gave my better half a kiss, grabbed my stuff and headed out the door. Picked up a small cup of coffee from BK Lounge and drove down 400 to the Marta station. Sipped coffee and water during the 10 minute drive to the station. Once on the train, made small talk with the folks around me and found out the guy (David P) sitting next to me works for a guy (Jay Eibler) that I cycle with. Jay is a friend and very strong triathlete who is training for IMLP. OK...everybody join in..."It's a small world after all, It's a small, small world." Turns out that David was running in TG 6 as well, so we hung together.
Ate a clementine during the walk from the Marta station to TG 6 corral - can you say "Mooooooooooooooooo?"
