Swim
Comments: Really poor swim. Tried to use bilateral breathing and was panicked by start. Thrashed for 200 m and only got into rhythm for last 200. It was a mistake not to wear my wet suit. What would you do differently?: Need more instruction on swim technique and should wear a wet suit whenever it is legal. Take every opportunity for open water swim practice!! Transition 1
Comments: Slow transition caused by breathlessness from swim. It was a 'what am I doing here' moment. What would you do differently?: Figure out how to arrive at bike with some breath left in me. Bike
Comments: Good ride for me since I am still a learner (need L plates). Managed to keep on right but was hampered a bit at turns by slower riders (not that I dare take them fast anyway). I also noticed that some people weren't keeping on the right, I hope I wasn't one of them (being English I have a tendency to drift left if my mind wanders). What would you do differently?: Not a thing, this went well and made up for disastrous swim. Oh there was one thing, I need to practice getting on and off the bike. New to clipping in so I am a danger to myself and others when setting off and stopping! Transition 2
Comments: Lost my transition spot (the rookie triathlete in me shining through) wasted about one minute checking adjacent rows before I found my running shoes in the first row I had been to. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions and mark my spot better (use 2 items not just one). I might look at pedals that I can use with my running shoes (cages, platforms?). My hands are usually a bit numb when I get off bike which makes for a slow shoe change. I need to get braver and relax my grip on the handle bars. White knuckles at 20 mph it doesn't bode well if I learn how to pedal harder. Run
Comments: Went reasonably well, legs felt like jelly. Pace reflected hilly course it was half a minute per mile down on my previous post bike 5k and nearly a minute per mile down on my normal race 5K. It was my second sprint tri and my run was a good bit slower than previous but that also could have been because I had a really good bike ride, (2 mph faster than my previous best which had been on a very flat course). What would you do differently?: More bricks in training. Post race
Warm down: 5 minute jog and stretch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bad transitions Panic on swim start Event comments: This was my second ever triathlon (first was Lonestar) and I was pleased to find myself in AG 2nd place. Small field but it was well organized and I enjoyed it. This type of race suits me, small field with very friendly volunteers and participants made it a pleasure!! Races like this will keep me coming back for tri's. Last updated: 2007-05-01 12:00 AM

Spaghetti with meatballs at Cafe Capri in Bryan - perfect.
Slept ok.
Up at 0530 and ate an oatmeal bar.
Arrived at transition 06:15.
Short jog and full stretch routine.
Checked water and had a practice swim, decided not to use wet suit. It was a mistake I needed all the help I could get.
