Swim
Comments: Not that it means much, but I ran 1:49 for this and was 14th overall. What would you do differently?: Swim!!! Transition 1
Comments: I have no shortcuts here. I came up, put my shoes on, grabbed my sunglasses, put on my helmet, jogged my bik eout of the transition area and then stopped, got on and rode off into the sunset. Okay, no sunste, heck no sun. What would you do differently?: Not much. Obviously, if I had a wetsuit on, this would have been much more complicated, so I did not get the experience I had hoped for. Bike
Comments: I lost a lot of time on the downhills. Having only been on my bike a few times this year so far, I am not comfortable on fast, winding downhills. Guys would fly by me on these. While I tapped my brakes, they were in the big chainring cranking it up. I never went into my big ring to try and keep my cadence high and keep pressure off my knees. What would you do differently?: I would push the downhills a bit more and go into my big ring when I had a long stretch with momentum. Otherwise, just more training really. Transition 2
Comments: I don't have those zippy elastic laces, so I lost time sitting down to tie my shoes. Plus I spazzed out and went to the wrong side of the rack, where I had laid out my cycling gear originally. My running gear was on the other side. What would you do differently?: I suppose those laces do save a lot of time, so I would consider using them. I was close to the slowest person in this transition, so that would help a lot. Run
Comments: Boy was I surprised by my legs during mile one. I knew they would be wobbly after the bike, but man I have never felt anything like that. I just pushed through knowing they would comback to me and they did. I rolled on a lot of people during the run. Probably about 15 or so. I was only 4 seconds off the fastest run time, so I wish I had pushed a little harder. What would you do differently?: Not much. The only change I would make is in training - a brick or several may be helpful as I had no clue what to expect after the bike. Post race
Warm down: Krispy Kreme doughnut holes, Cliff bar, banana and Accelerade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience. Truth be told, the lack of swim helped me out, but I was still upset not to have it Event comments: Obviously the swim was a bummer, but that had nothing to do with the race organizers. The State park would not allow it with thunder. Otherwise, with only 130 people, it was a manageable size and well run. Everyone was friendly, the course was well marked and there were people stationed everywhere necessary. Last updated: 2007-05-01 12:00 AM

No real routine. Ate a bowl of oatmeal at 5:00 a.m. and then a banana at about 6:30. Got there early enough to relax getting ready. Checked in, went to the men's room, scouted out the area. About 15 mins. before the start I threw on my wetsuit and walked down to the beach.
None.
