Comments: Felt strong, never nervous or panicky! What would you do differently?: Just take more swim lessons...can always improve form. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Fine transition...ran up the first steep hill where some people inevitably fall. ![]() Bike
Comments: Did not go as fast as I would have liked...but often when I thought of pushing, I didn't because I wanted to finish! I also stopped to help a girl on the course who was really sick. Probably cost me 20 minutes or so. What would you do differently?: I had my bike placed in aero position only 1 month before the race...I think this slowed me down because I didn't train this way. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Fine! Changed shorts because I did NOT want to run in my bike shorts. Probably should have changed my top too...not as supportive as I would have liked! ![]() Run
Comments: The first 8 miles I was smokin'! Felt great. The second 8 mile loop I was starving, so I ate some chips...bad idea. I got sick. Then picked it up for a while. The last 8 mile loop my stomach was done. I was nauseous and couldn't get any nutrition in. Ended up power walking a lot of the last loop. It was pitch-dark, and all I could see was my glow stick, and the middle white line in the road faintly. What would you do differently?: Find a better way to fuel for the run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Shower and bed! What limited your ability to perform faster: My stomach, the heat, and not being able to train properly for the run (based on old stress fracture). I was hoping to finish in 14 hours, but I am still proud to have finished. Being my first ironman distance, and being so "little" as my parents put it (I've never had a lot of body fat), I think I did well. Event comments: The 1,000 volunteers were awesome! The race was extremely organized. The 2 transition areas was a bit of a hassle. Beautiful course, but also challenging enough. My tri club peeps were amazing! Great athletes AND very supportive. Got up at 4, drank 3 Boosts, and loaded the car for the 25 min drive to the swim start at Guerneville. Felt pretty calm.
No warm-up.
