Woke at 4, drove to race site. Set up my transition area in my assigned space...and right on top of a fire ant hill!

The bike mount area was in a field! I had to run to the road before I could get onto my bike because I didn't want to get stuck in the mud!

This is where the fire ants returned! I racked my bike, took off my bike shoes, and as I was putting on one shoe, the other foot was under attack!

I wish I could've racked my bike away from the anthill, but we had assigned racks!

I had to walk a bit because I was so overheated that I started to get chills. I raced across the finish line next to a woman who came from behind me and sprinted through the chute...I briefly considered diving through the finish line so I'd beat her. That would've been funny!
What would you do differently?:

Dive through the finish chute! Haha!

Drank about 5 glasses of water and Gu2O, ate some orange slices, walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Humidity and heat. That's Louisiana for ya...
