Overall Rank = 295/618

Age Group Rank = 55/85
Pre-race routine:

4:30 Wakup-call. Ate an Oat Bagel with Peanut Butter and hitched a ride with neighbors to the event.
Event warmup:

None to speak of...we had a late wave and any warm-up would have been wasted.
Swim
  • 10m 14s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was towards the back of the pack, but I did a good job keeping my pace and not getting bothered by others around me. Unlike previous tri's this year, I didn't get winded and felt like could have swam much futher and ened faster than when I started.
What would you do differently?:

swim harder and focus on my technique sooner.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

No problems in this transition. I had put my things in plastic bags after two events where a rain god to all of my things before I hit T1. I That perhaps slowed my time somewhat, but it wasn't a problem. I also didn't put my gloves on as I just put them in my back pocket of my jersey. I also pre-loaded my shoes onto my clips. This worked out well as I was able to get my shoes tied while on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I won't plan on putting my gloves on at all for a shot distance.
Bike
  • 54m 33s
  • 19 miles
  • 20.90 mile/hr
Comments:

This wasn't a bad ride, except that the width in many places were too narrow, which made drafting unavoidable in many places. I saw a lot of penalties handed out right in front of me. There was one section where we were on the wrong-side of the road going against traffic with only about 2 feet of width. This was a very dangerous situation as you had very few choices to avoid road hazards. Passing was difficult and it demanded a lot road handling skills that many people just don't have. I did see one ambulance helping someone that appeared to have taken a dive. I hope they were OK.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my sunglasses (too many bugs/debris hit my eyes). Perhaps push a little stronger, but I felt very good about this ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

This went quick...I took too much time getting off the bike, but someone was just ahead of me that caused me to stop for a few seconds to wait on them.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my row better...I had a hard time picking out my spot.
Run
  • 26m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I did pretty good, I could have pushed, but I didn't have a good sense of the distance throughout out. If there had been reliable distance markers, I would have felt better about starting to go faster towards the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much...did some stretching after grabbing some pizza.

Event comments:

This was a good race, but the organization could have been better. This was a new venue while they transition between last year's place and their new venue that'll go into affect next year. The volunteers were helpful and there were plenty of enthusiastic supports from the local high schools. I'll do this one again, but I hope they make some changes to the course to allow for more elbow room on the bike and the run.

Course: It was a little strange as you had to keep the buoys on the left side, then to the right side depending on where you were. There were several places where the water wasn't deep enough and I ended up hitting mud with my hands. Overall, it was decent and short...just the way I like them.

Course: This route was an out-n-back route that followed a street then went onto a "nature trail". It was also very narrow in spots and, once again, we were running "opposite" normal convention. We were to stay left, which made you pass to the right..very close to the runners going the opposite direction.
